Does your church charge members to have a wedding at the church facilities?

Yes…I think most do
Posted on 9/17/25 at 8:04 pm to Old Man and a Porch
Yes.... it pays for utilities, cleaning before and after and coordination.
It isn't a profit thing so much as a covering costs thing.
I think the charge is higher for non members.

Yes pretty much all do. Most will give a discount for members.
A lot of churches (like the Catholic Church) don’t charge for the priest, but it’s customary to give them a donation. .

My Catholic church doesn't, but it's customary to slip the priest an envelope for the services.

Technically, no. But you’ve gotta cover a handful of expenses that total about $500. Maybe $1000.

Yes.
Non-parishioner? That’ll be extra.

I guess I’m old school. I think a church should provide services to its members and a wedding should be one of them.
Before our offering they always tell you why you should tithe. They mention all the services they provide, I think the wedding should be free and you pay the people involved whatever you choose.
What if a member is unable to pay the designated fee?

For the building fund? Or for the lawsuits?

They have to unlock/relock doors, pay for cleaning, set up and take down and utilities... that costs money. The wedding party covering that cost is fair.
For our church it wasn't a whole lot of money... and of course the honorarium to the pastor/priest- which for our setup wasn't a set fee but more donation style.

My daughter was married at the Cathedral of St. Louis, King of France in St. Louis, Missouri. We are not parishioners. It cost me a grand not including a couple of hundred bucks that I gave the priest.

The cathedral will always be more. Partly as a way of rationing.

Parishioners no but it’s customary to give something to cover various expenses.

I guess it depends on the church, but if its a Catholic church, then more than likely it does.

My current church charges a nominal fee for covering costs. It's also customary to slip the preacher a lil cash.

Include “donation” in the check memo
Posted on 9/17/25 at 8:47 pm to Old Man and a Porch
Yes and then don’t forget to “tip” the priest.
