Most synagogues and JCCs around have police sit outside for as long as I can remember.

The church I worked at in Memphis was filled with concealed carries. Every staff member was packing, and about half the congregation was as well. Had anybody came into that place they would have left in a body bag.

However, we are also cognizant how the hands of Justice far too many times jailed innocent men, excessively punished men, etc. they were celebrating a black man circumventing the Justice system with wealth and power---something white Americans with the resources had been doing for hundreds of years

Blacks who continue to think like this - I'm just going to say it - deserve to be stereotyped then, in light of:

Most black people knew damn well that he was guilty.

Yep. I mean, the kid was willing to murder 9 innocent people. But no way he would break the gun law. I mean sure, he is willing to break the law about murdering people, but noway he would stoop to breaking a gun law

Like I try to tell JB all the time - no other people on the Earth should be more armed, at least collectively, as the Jews. I try to turn him on to JPFO but he won't listen.

I still think shoot em up video games desensitize people. Yes, I know the vast majority of people play them and don't do this.

"Roof's childhood friend, Joey Meek, alerted the FBI after recognizing him in a surveillance camera image that was widely circulated, said Meek's mother, Kimberly Kozny. Roof had worn the same sweatshirt while playing Xbox videogames in their home recently."

Not trying to take away from the obvious racial motivation here.

That being said, sadly, we live in a world, where Grand Theft Auto is a popular video games and shooting people on the street is laughed about. How did our society come to accept this as fun? I really don't get it.

ETA: just saw tiger skins post. Ditto

Eh, I'm not a psychopath and I could definitely play a little GTA right now without having any urge to harm a living creature.

That's the key.

But yeah, I'm not saying it causes this stuff, but the fact that it's a normal part of life is kind of sad.

I play video games where people get killed and I understand the difference between fantasy and reality. However, you point is well-taken - the ubiquitousness of these types of first person shooters, both very realistic and military, through to more fanciful and less serious titles may have had a degrading effect on our society at large. I'm not sure what to do with this possibility other than to acknowledge it, though.

Violence as a literary tool is as old as storytelling itself. Stories for public consumption are almost always driven by conflict - and the easiest conflict to describe/narrate is actual physical violence.
