Agree. I certainly don't think they should be banned, it is what it is.

Hear that a lot, like its some kind of force field or something.

If you make some one mad enough at you to want to kill you, and that person is competent and willing to pay the price,

it will be irrelevant to the outcome as to whether you are carrying or not.

Jesus fricking Christ, give me a break with the video game bullshite. There is no video game out there that has some little devil voice telling someone to go commit a crime while they play. People who commit crimes are fricked up in the head, and have been WELL before they were ever introduced to a video game. I've been playing gory, violent, unspeakably heinous games since I was a teenager and I turned out just fine.

This kid was/is a racist tPOS. There's no other answer. He needs to have a few bullets popped in him and thrown into shark infested waters. frick housing someone like him for the rest of his life. You took the lives of 9 damn people without reason, thus you should pay with your own.

Agree 100%.

I just think the fact that we can even wrap our heads around such a heinous act is in no small way related to the media that we consume as a society.

If it doesn't improve society, then it hurts it. Because it has an effect, one way or another. What do you think is more likely?

With Augusta being pretty close to Charleston, I'm glad BHP gave me this card the other day.

Maybe not in my or your time, but you do realize that the same society you speak of is the same society that used to hold public hangings and executions? If anything, the media today covers up most of the gory stuff and only reports on what will get them the most ratings/comments. Did you hear about the latest U.S. Soldier that was killed yesterday? NOPE! But I bet you know what Bruce Jenner ate for breakfast.

Once we stop allowing the media to control our thought process, we will be able to move away from the race wars and people will stop trying to one up each other. Don't you think all the media coverage surrounding the Columbine shootings has had a part to play in every school shooting since then? Somewhere, some kid saw that coverage and was like "wow, I can get that sort of attention?! Pfft... what those boys did in Colorado pales in comparison to what I can do. I'll show them."

Race is an issue in this country, but as long as the media feeds it to us every single day, it's going to get worse. Start treating it as a crime and not a White vs Black thing. A POS shot and killed innocent by standers. Forget color. Prosecute him because he is a murderer.

you are promoting the idea that a group of people create narratives and mythology in their heads and it creates their reality

how can you claim to live in reality when you believe that your worldview is nothing more than individually-created mythology?

On the flip side, there are tons of racists that don't do this either. But combine that with densistization from kill games, and mental instability....and there you go. I don't expect the numerous gamers here to want to hear that. But desensitization is real.

Agree with all this. Unfortunately, it's an us vs them mentality.

You're wrong. It's a reality that gives way to a narrative. People only have those views because of their shared experiences of reality. You're suggesting again, that black folks make up the tribulations they have faced, and then exaggerate them to meet some end goal

Some black folks act as if slavery was yesterday, lynchings are still common and the 1964 CRA was not passed (with largely Republican support, BTW).

The right to bear arms doesn't have so much to do with defense from crime as it does with the ability to fend off an oppressive government.

You see this a lot from the people who ignore the actual amendment's language:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

The purpose of the right was to insure that the state could muster an armed militia to defend itself against others, not to secure the ability of the populace to engage in armed insurrection against the state. Nevertheless, the right is there. But I wouldn't suggest storming Washington with guns if you don't like some law that Congress has passed.
