They also brought most of the slaves over to the New World. Lisbon needs to dedicate some MLK streets and take down a crap load of statues.

Because the indigenous empires that the conquistadores supplanted were such peace loving and progressive civilizations

Dumbass. It wasn't to refute your idiotic comment, it was to correct the country of origin comment.
Cristóbal Colón was Portuguese.
Cristóbal Colón was Portuguese.

I wasn’t there but I’m not sure why I’ve never heard these stories until now.

Neat. Most sources believe he was born in Genoa.

There were many different practices among many different tribes. They weren't all violent and they weren't all peaceful. It varied.
Meanwhile, you had this in Europe just a few hundred years before:
But don't mind me, I'd never want accuracy to get in the way of a good hot take.

I don’t know that what he did was a whole lot worse than his contemporary explorers of the day. Those guys were pretty much genocidal maniac‘s who just wanted to conquer whatever they could kill anybody who was already there or got in their way.
It seems like all of his contemporaries also hated him though, which means he might’ve been a little bit worse than them. Or at least he was a huge a-hole to everyone around him and made himself unlikable
