Yep...helped a buddy build one so he could propose to his GF. He left us to go eat lunch while not bringing us anything to eat and we weren't able to finish it in time and the proposal was ruined by the GF because she got annoyed with him 'tapping' her shoulder so he could ask....she looked at him yelling WHAT?!?! Then she had to apologize and then say yes as he was trying to pick his dignity up off the ground.

It’s super fricking crowded now.

This - we go a couple of days before to see the setups. Unless you know somebody that has a place for you to park, the traffic is a nightmare. It is still a great tradition.

I got arrested there about 20 years ago. Right at sunset, I ran from one Bonfire pile to the other, lighting each one before they were supposed to be lit. I was yelling "The Beacons of Amon Din must be lit... Gondor calls for help!". It didn't go over all that well.

We used to go up mid day before the fires just to see what all was being built.

For a short while we could take the River Boat paddle wheeler up from NOLA for dinner and to see the fires being lit. I guess that didn't last but it was a great trip.

Agreed! Looking forward to this one. If memory serves they’ll drop it on the 16th, so hopefully it gets here before Christmas Eve, and I’ll light a bowl then!

You grew up in Laplace, and you're complaining that Bonfire Country is super crowded?

Laplace is a dump and everyday is like downtown Chicago!

Married into a family from down there. It’s become my favorite tradition. I tell everyone to make it down at least once in their lives. It’s worth the trip.

They got married and are still married but we all suspect that she beats him (not really joking).
