Any big side effects with cholesterol medications???

Went to the doc for the first time in a long time today and was 290 w/ LDL 180 so he’s recommending I get on some. I’ve never taken medication and worried about side effects. Educate me OT.

I don’t think exercise will help as I already run 20 miles a week and lift 3-4 days.

Yikes, dude. I would be more worried about the cholesterol than the side effects.

Depends on the medication... there are a lot of cholesterol medications with varying side effects.

Little leg soreness, but when your number drops to 60 despite eating boudin, fried okra, hog head cheese and eggs on the reg it is worth it. I have a family history, but still in decent shape. They put me on it due to history and my numbers being borderline high. Dropped like a rock within two weeks and has remained down. My good cholesterol remains above average (red wine and olive oil).

I noticed no side effects from Atorvastatin... except the intended effect-my cholesterol dropped like crazy.

Makes me feel like I’m about 80 years old, and gives me a little brain fog. I don’t really like being on it (Crestor), but it has greatly lowered my cholesterol.

You sound pretty fit. Does heart disease run in your family or something?

You run 20 miles a week and weigh 290lbs? Something doesn’t add up here.

Don’t take statins, research shows that cholesterol numbers aren’t a big indicator of heart disease. It’s all a big money grab by pharmaceutical companies. Your triglyceride number is a better indicator of heart disease risk.

He’s saying his total cholesterol with hdl and ldl is 290
