I would never bail on my parents. And they will never be in a nursing home.
If you do that to your parents you are a true piece of shite
Not going to downvote you, but you clearly haven't been down this road, or at least not yet.
Everyone says they would never put a loved one in a nursing home.....until you have to.
My own mother was once a brilliant school teacher, taught Gifted and Talented, was a world traveler, addicted to learning, always taking pot pourri/gumbo u side classes in any and all subjects, until she developed dementia and became unable to care for herself, and was too much for my able-bodied dad to handle.
She has lost so much executive function, that she cannot make a cell phone call. It is very sad.
There are no other siblings to help. Just dad, and me living in a nearby town an hour away.
It was a painful decision, but she is where she needs to be. She is not well enough for assisted living.
So, while I applaud your dedication to your family and your great intentions, you do not know how it's going to go. Could be dementia, could be a massive stroke. I wish your family well, but your statement lacks maturity....which you will get over time. And I say that in the most kind of ways. We all want what is best, and at some point we think there will be lots of family and lots of money to make that all happen when the time comes. Families will do what they can with what they've got when the time comes.
Thankfully, I'm in health care (like you) and have helped my folks navigate the system to their best advantage.

Can’t we just have opinions without someone being right/wrong? We’ve been married 27 years. No kids. Very happy but completely understand kids.

People will be very lonely when they hit middle/late aged.
There will be some incredibly lonely, depressed, and medicated individuals in the future.

I was always amazed at how I can think back on my mothers life and not think of her sinning. We all sin, I realize that but to not be able to come up with something off the top of my head is amazing.
My dad, he’s never told me a single thing and it not happened . He always does what he says he’s gonna do.
I just feel incredibly lucky and I know that some of us wouldn’t want to take on that burden if they became nearly impossible to care for but how can you not try for people like that.
My whole life has been full of sin. Everyday I try to be half what they are/were.
Idk I just wanted to say that even though nobody cares

you cant guarantee that. Medically, it may eventually be necessary.

That would be the hardest thing I could imagine having to experience. Especially when they can become violent. I wouldn’t know how to approach it.

And it only gets worse.
It fricking sucks. You have to realize it is a disease and not take the daily abuse personally but man it's hard.

I feel like there’s two groups of people that want to be child free.
You’ve got people that just don’t want kids, but don’t feel the need to broadcast it on social media. I’m reminded of Todd and Margo from Christmas Vacation.
Then there’s another group of people that actually hate children and rejoice in seeing harm come to them.
The latter group definitely exist and are vocal on social media platforms.

Not if you raised them right.

Referring to kids as crotch spawn is disgusting. People are so callous and shitty.
Lighten up, Francis.
Not everyone hates kids. Some people just choose not to have them. I prefer someone to make that choice willingly than for someone to pop out a kid to save a marriage or bait someone into a marriage, which usually doesn’t bode well for the kid. Now that’s callous and shitty.

We have kids and I wouldn’t change a thing but plenty of parents end up as very lonely old people.

Very well said and accurate. Cosmo doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and hopefully he never does in this regard.

What’s the story behind it?
It’s another way of bragging that they have killed their kid by abortion.
In their world it gives them cachet.
It’s telling you they’ve had an abortion without saying they’ve had an abortion.
