In the black community, being noticed is incredibly important, especially if you’re noticed for having possession of nice looking things.
Doesn’t really matter what the occasion is, how you got the things, or whether or not the things actually belong to you. You’re a person with nice things and that means something.
Obviously it’s a broken hierarchy of value but it’s deeply woven into the culture.

Spending a 30 minutes going down the rabbit hole of “prom send off” videos was well worth my time.
In addition to the luxury cars and stacks of fake movie prop cash, I saw the following being used in photo ops:
-private jets
-a camel
-a tiger
-fake doorway facades (presumably to make it look like they were coming out of an actually nice house)
-fake expensive watches and jewelry appear mandatory
Gotta be some of the worst money ever spent
I honestly had no idea this was a thing in the black community

They could've taken the choppa' photos at a better angle that didn't have houses in the background
