An Illinois park executive is facing backlash after she was accused of using a taxpayer-funded credit card to help pay for an $800 helicopter rental for her daughter’s prom photoshoot.

Quintina Brown, head of the Markham Park District outside Chicago, arranged for the helicopter to land at Roesner Park on May 8 so her 17-year-old daughter Quamyra could pose for pictures in front of it.

The invoice reportedly listed “Markham Parks” as the customer, used the park district fieldhouse address and included Brown’s signature.

quote:

Brown denied any misuse of public money, telling NBC 5, “There was no misuse of funds at all,” and insisting she used her own credit card.

“[My daughter] was graduating and this was going to be a memorable experience. I just wanted to be able to provide that for her,” Brown told WGN-TV.

quote:

Children nearby ran from the area when the chopper touched down, according to city attorney Kelly Krauchun.

Yeah, I don't think that's allowed, Quintina...

What is with this black obsession with Prom? Hell I'd at least somewhat understand if they did this for high school or college graduation, but Prom? Why act like this, spend what they spend......on an insignificant dance.

It seems like handing 18 year old thugs thousands of dollars in cash to go hang out with other thugs is a disaster waiting to happen.

I think theirs is difference between a limo a parent rents versus a helicopter landing at a public park.

It's actually impressive how, time and again, these same people get caught and just look into the camera and say "what's the big deal?" Like we are the idiots. LaToya holds the all time record but this is a close second.

Displaying flashy objects to give the impression they’re wealthy or successful.

Same reason why they obsess over hair, jewelry, nails, cars, etc

It’s part of their culture

Fun fact: I grew up right around here and it was a decent enough area even into the 90s. Same as Dolton, home of the Mayor there and all her antics the last few years that always get posted here. Both places are like 8 miles apart.

What I don't understand is the renting of nice vehicles for the photoshoot. But the kids aren't allowed to drive them. So they just take the pics in front of the vehicle and then their parents (I know the jokes are coming) just take them to the prom?
