Sounds like a bad joke, but I started noticing back in the 1990s that the first really hot weeks of the year in NOLA corresponded with big violence.
Maybe people are more easily aggravated when the weather gets hot again. Or maybe I'm connecting dots that aren't there.

We should use this as an educational opportunity and a chance to improve ourselves. Put together a team to study how Japan has very little black on black crime and try it here. What do we have to lose?

I'd put a lot of money down to bet that the guns used were, almost exclusively, not legal/registered. Try again. Oh, and Japan is essentially an ethno-state with a consistently adhered-to culture.

We were visiting last week and drove from the Museum of Science and Industry straight west to I-59. No bueno, should not have let my wife navigate.

Here is a website of Chicago crime stats that are pulled from pubicalliy available police blotters. I believe it was created and run by a former cop.

When you scroll down you can see the district maps and get a quick visual of where most of the shootings occur.
As you can imagine its typically poorest of the poor black neighborhoods.
There have been many proposed solutions but the beat cops always point out it starts at City Hall. Cops I know quietly say City Hall is about lip service and not true policing solutions.
The stats seem to bear this sentiment out...

I know a guy who quite his 100k hedge fund consulting gig to become a beat cop in Chicago.
He’s only been doing it for a few months but he’s already changed so much.
He’s gone from someone very high minded to absolutely fed up with all the shite that happens.
He got assigned to one of the ghettos and he’s sick of going into houses where people just piss and shite on the walls.
