I’m excited for the potential good these deep fakes can do in the porn industry but they really are scary stuff.

I’m not sure I even want to watch this. I could not imagine an alternate history where the US moon landing does not happen.

It’s one of the cornerstones of American exceptionalism and one of our crowning achievements as a nation and a species.

In this alternative history the landing actually happened but the astronauts died there. In our current timeline we never landed but didn’t die.

I've read all of that contingency stuff. You can find it in the NASA online archives. The part that always stuck with me is that if they were lost on the moon or in space for any reason, Mission Control could brick the spacecraft's radios so the astronauts couldn't transmit panicked cries for help, condemnations, etc., that could be picked up by people on Earth.

They'd tell the astronauts that nothing could be done for them, get the families in for last goodbyes, then turn the radios off, have the chaplains essentially give them a burial at sea, and that was it. Michael Collins was trained to come home alone if that happened.

I'd imagine the stranded astronauts would just open the vents on the spacecraft and drift off due to hypoxia as their air bled out into space. It would be a fairly quick and painless way to go.
