Yup. They do that in Cali as well and it’s annoying as heck. Not to mention it creates a dangerous situation when they whiz between cars

When traffic is stopped, it's much safer for the motorcyclist to split lanes.

You never know when some dumbfrick in a car is going to be looking at his phone instead of the road, then rear-end a motorcycle that's stopped for traffic.

There is nothing dangerous about it when you are expecting it.

Your typical idiot driver is paying more attention to their phone than the road and not checking their mirrors when switching lanes. That's when it becomes "dangerous."

bullshite.

The 405 is the busiest highway in the country and lane splitting was done every day. I commuted from El Segundo to Encino every day and saw multiple fatalities from lane splitting.

Its not. It is legal in most states if stopped traffic

No, Unless something has changed in the last month or so, it is only explicitly legal in California.

The cops typically don't worry about it unless there is an accident, though.

Good for that guy. Why should those idiots be allowed to skip traffic. If you want to be able to use the road with cars you should have to follow the same rules as a car

On March 24, 2022, Arizona governor Doug Ducey officially signed a bill into state law that legalizes lane filtering for two-wheeled motorcycles if certain conditions are met.

“The operator of a two-wheeled motorcycle may overtake and pass another vehicle that is stopped in the same direction of travel and in the same lane as the operator and may operate the motorcycle between lanes of traffic if the operator does all of the following:

1. Operates the motorcycle on a street that both:

a) Is divided into at least two adjacent traffic lanes in the same direction of travel.

b) Has a speed limit that does not exceed forty-five miles per hour

2. Travels at a speed that does not exceed fifteen miles per hour.
3. First ascertains that the movement can be made safely.”

Arizona also doesn’t require bikers to wear a helmet.

Most are doctors and lawyers playing biker gang dress up on their Harleys.

Most of his lane-splitting happened while cars were stopped or at a roll. Once again...it's the responsibility of the driver to check their surroundings before merging.

Drivers are checking for a big massive vehicle in the other lane. They aren’t checking for some jackass 100 yards back on a motorcycle riding between the cars

Because they can, and it's safe to do so. People getting bent out of shape are mad because of a perceived advantage someone else has. You chose to drive a truck. You can do a lot more things with your choice of transportation that the motorcyclist can't. Enjoy your convenience, and let him enjoy his.

I am aware, I've been driving it daily for seven years.

You said you saw them "weekly", which was made up. Now it is "multiple." That is actually believable.

I've seen maybe 2-3 in seven years.

On the 405 in the morning, a 25 mile commute would take 45 minutes at 5 am. At 3 pm, it would take 1:15. I knew it and was fine with it. I had no problems with a motorcycle getting an "advantage", it was not a safe practice.

If a car is switching lanes, signaling and checking the blind spot, a crotch rocket coming at a high rate of speed lane splitting will still get crunched. I saw it many, many times.

Lane splitting when stopped? Fine. But when the 405 is going 10 mph and a lane splitter is doing 30, it's a recipe for disaster

The cyclist is obeying the laws. He is lane splitting at a low rate of speed while traffic is virtually at a standstill.

He is not passing on the line while doing 55 mph.

I don’t know why anyone is against this law. It makes no sense.

It's either legal in Austin or it isn't. If it isn't, he shouldn't be doing it.

If it is, he was absolutely doing it the right way, with a very low rate of speed.

Either way, the lardass in the F150 is wrong.

Good to know. Also think a few, maybe more than a few, other states have proposed laws to allow it. Seems like it adds some risk to me but I really have no dog in this fight so whatever the law decides is fine with me.

It is still illegal in Texas.

fvcking hater. I want the bikes to lane split. It reduces traffic. If he can go ahead and get through that’s one car length less I have to wait. Also if the guy on the bike lane splits he’s not just sitting there burning gas. God forbid someone beat traffic without slowing you down. It benefits the biker but you also.
