I'd like to believe that if I truly loved someone I would be able to forgive a poor decision or bad choice like cheating, but the reality of it is the trust factor would be gone and as much as I tried to forgive and forget I would never be able to forget and it would gnaw at me so my likely decision would be to cut ties as soon as it happened.
BTW fwiw, In a scenario similar to your nephews, I would be much less likely to forgive abandoning me and the kids than the cheating.

She cheated, which is already a relationship ender, but she also abandoned her children. This is a genuinely bad person that your nephew is willingly letting back into his life. Terrible decision and you as his family need to intervene and set this dude straight.

She probably told Craig that she was going to see if the dumb bastard would get a U haul and come pick her up. They had a good laugh over it when he said yes.
She is coming back because there are some things she misses and cannot bear to be without. She misses the checking account. She misses the savings account. She misses the retirement accounts. She misses the gold coins that they had stashed away for a rainy day.
She is going to take all these things that she missed when she leaves next time. They will comfort her when she is fixing Craig a sandwich.
