Problem is MCAT and GPA doesn't measure intelligence. As with the USC scandal, the rich can bypass more barriers to entry. I have no issue admitting a lower income kid if they meet basic requirements.

In a side note I have one current AA physician colleague who absolutely abhors affirmative action - he believes (rightly) that he may be viewed as not as capable or smart compared to others and that he may have got into med school due to his race (he did not by the way).

He's unfortunately got a stigma and that's a shame for the AA doctors that worked hard and are just as capable of a doctor of another race.

It is not perfect (especially not GPA since it varies on the undergrad institution, major, professor, etc.) but it is used because it is the best indicator of how someone might do in med school. The standardized tests and other high level classes only gets harder in med school.

The med schools act like they care about it but they don’t. Because otherwise applying to medical school wouldn’t be as crazy expensive as it is. So many students spend thousands of dollars in the application process in the hopes they might get in somewhere. And the med schools keep adding in more things like the Casper tests which also costs money.

My brother tutors students at top high schools in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties (VA) in his spare time.

He had an Asian student get a 35 on the ACT with excellent GPA and community service, etc. The dude applied to 10 universities and only got accepted to Virginia Tech through direct admission.

Best and brightest my arse.

Race shouldn't even be a factor in school admissions. What are your scores, grades, extracurricular, etc. Here's the baseline for acceptance, aaaaaaand go. Either you make the cut or you dont.

Universities and grad schools loved that they didn’t have to include standardized test scores this year

Filled up with under qualified people and didn’t have to show it. “Privileged” students with top of the line ACT’s were getting rejections from “top” colleges all over the place.

I been to the doctor quite a few times. The best doctor's I have had were an Indian, and one of Lebanese ancestry. The worst was a white woman. Had a pretty good black NP. All the white dudes have been above average. Indian doctor saved my life
This is my anecdotal evidence. The most important thing for a doctor is to listen to the patient and to treat the patient. They seem to often time forget that patients are humans and are only treating a disorder/symptom etc and there is no human element. Those are the doctors that are bad doctors

One thing that always gets completely ignored are the poor affirmative action kids who get in WAYYY over their heads and flunk out with huge loads of debt. These kids have no ability to succeed at a place like Harvard. However, they might have done very well at a Penn State or Rutgers or Tulane. The opportunity is squandered so that white liberal administrators can feel good about giving disadvantaged kids a chance when everyone would have been better off sorting by actual academic ability instead of group status.

My friend’s kid got a letter from Yale stating that standardized test scores were not required to apply, starting this year. What’s strange is that he only started getting letters from colleges after he took the ACT and got a 33.

They do that to offset all the legacy admits. Basically the system is bring rigged for rich whites and the rich whites are trying to hide behind the "all whites bad" mantra to save themselves at the expense of true deserving whites.

We're all pawns in their little game to maintain their status and position.

And you all laughed at Rachel Dolezal. Evidently, she was on to something.

Assuming being a UK fan you are from Appalachia. If what you are posting was the entry to Harvard, then the rich kids with tutors and their daddy making large donations would only get accepted. A kid from SE Kentucky would never be able to compete academically.

So now AA students are all walking around Harvard telling themselves what to deal with this?

The tuition at Harvard is a bit misleading. They will take care of everything for the most part if your family is of middle or lower class. It is in their best interest to take care of students. They have a 40+ billion dollar endowment. 60k is chump change.
