The average Democrat is just following the herd, same as us.
But the Democrats are promoting historically unprecedented ideas that a lot of the left leaning world isn't joining them in - radical gender ideology, radical self-loathing of the majority, so forth.
I think both things can be true - most Democrats are fairly normal people, but they're signing on to varying degrees to a platform that is increasingly unhinged.
The ideas promoted by the right that are alleged to be fringe/etc. - we should have borders, illegal immigrants should be expelled, men can't get pregnant and to think so is insanity, it's fine to prefer your own family and culture to others, it's fine to favor native Americans over the world - these just aren't radical in any meaningful sense anywhere, especially in the context of America's history.
