The brand new hospital is marvalous. Way better than any of those non working no insurance drug addicts deserve.

They're still people. And they've all gotten to the point they're at for a reason. But I think you'd be surprised just how many people that roll through there are normal people, down on their luck. Most of them work very hard taking care of family members and friends, even if they don't have formal incomes. As frustrating as some people can be, they are still people, and both you and I are very fortunate not to be living the sort of life a lot of them have to live.

I've got two ideas for what should happen to that place.

1) light it on fire with jet fuel and see if the steal beams melt

B) Flex seal it and turn it into a Top Golf.

Wasn't charity hospital in New Orleans known around the nation as one of the best hospitals at treating gun shot wound's and gun shot trauma? I'm not being sarcastic, I had always heard that.

I read up on Anna Pou earlier. Looks like she works at OLOL in BR now.

When you read up on her did you read the part about her working at Baptist Hospital? (called Memorial Medical Center at the time of Katrina, but still Southern Baptist Hospital, or Baptist, to anyone from New Orleans. And never ever confused with Charity.)

I don't know what Charlie Foti (longtime Orleans Parish civil sheriff and LA Attorney General at the time of Katrina) was trying to prove by pursuing charges against Anna Pou. She was well regarded in the N.O. Medical community and was forced to practice medicine in Third World conditions. Patients died at every local hospital. More at Baptist than others, but it was a similar situation at every hospital in Orleans Parish. Maybe Foti or some other political hack had a relative die there so they were looking for a scapegoat. I don't know. But charging those women was bullshite and political grandstanding.

I had always heard the same. Charity and Bellevue in NYC were the ERs you wanted to be in if you were unfortunate enough to be shot or stabbed.

I would expect that UMC would continue the Charity tradition. After all, they're serving the same clientele who are still shooting each other like there's no tomorrow.

They need to do something with it though. Razing it seems like a painful thing to do with the history, but it's an eyesore.

The city was in negotiations to make it City Hall

I would make an awesome haunted house. "World's Largest and Scariest Haunted House!" Fill it with a bunch of clowns.

Has there been any word about what'll happen with Lindy Boggs? I know its quite the spot for people who like to get into abandoned things, guess theres less risk/guard there than at Charity.

Passed by last month and it looked like they were pulling a bunch of crap out again. Maybe they are finally moving ahead.

UMC still is. SOCOM sends its operators there to rotate through the trauma department.

Yes, than is correct. If you get a chance, do a look up on Dr. Norman McSwain. Trauma and emergency medical services are what they are today because of his work. Before I became a nurse, I worked as his secretary at Tulane Medical School. Great person.

Charity was a dilapidated hellhole before Katrina, that was staffed with some of the best trama docs and nurses in the country.

All of the electrical, engineering, HVAC, tech, etc system were in the basement and all were completely destroyed.

The cost to remediate the building would have been immense.

The state made the right decision and the new hospital is great. This is one of the few things the state has ever gotten right. I simply do not understand why people want to go back to Charity.

They are finally doing a full gutting of the building. Rumor around here is St. Margaret's is going to be involved somehow.
