We have boxes of donations, mostly diapers & formula, to send from Texas. Suggestions on best area to send for shipping purposes? Don't want it to sit in a warehouse somewhere for 6 months because roads are closed.

Wife was able to buy a bunch of stuff and put in a donation bin in Walmart in Thibodaux. People are also accepting donations for victims at Peltier Park in Thibodaux
I love seeing people rally to help each other. It's a shame the big box billion dollar stores like Wal mart and target aren't directly donating mass supplies to help their communities. Shameful.

This will e a perfect excuse to clean out my closet, and donate some clothes.
But for another question, what would be some of the best charities to donate to financially?(that does the most help) My Mom in VA wants to donate some money to relief efforts.

Send gift cards instead of food and clothes. They are much easier to handle and nothing goes to waste.

All that is really needed is labor and cash or gift cards. Forget all the other stuff.

Not sure if this has been covered:
Please consider donations of pet food, crates, carriers, leashes, collars & other supplies. 5 animal shelters had to evacuate & are now desperate for supplies. Those that evacuated with their pets to shelters didn't have time to get food. Shelters & rescues are going to be overwhelmed with strays in the coming weeks.
The DS Animal Shelter & Livingston Paish Animal Shelter both have Amazon wish lists.
Dog People of Livingston Parish, Swampy Paws, Cara's House are all local rescues that can be contacted for needs.
If you are in the area & can foster any homeless pets please do.
If one shows up at your home please use FB Lost Pets to find owners.
Admin: if I need to remove rescue names let me know

Do you know for a fact that they aren't, or are you just assuming that because they put up bins and asked for people to chip in?

Really you could go down greenwell springs and stop when you see people hauling stuff.
Tons of people are trying to clear houses right now.

I helped at Celtic from about 7:30-9:30, just happened to be there for their dinner service, Piccadilly brought the food and had a few employees but they had and definitely needed about 50 volunteers to help serve. It was non stop. The head Picadilly woman said they'll be doing it for breakfast lunch and dinner so if you can and want definitely need help at Celtic for that and other things.

If you live in Houma, there are plenty of locations to drop off needed items:
United Way for South LA
Mulberry Baptist has a truck on St. Charles in the Concord Plaza and is collecting water, diapers, formula, hygiene products through 7pm tomorrow night. Drop offs can be made at the Hi-5 discount store in the strip center.
Chick-Fil-A on MLK will be a drop off site for flood relief items this week (Mon-Thur) from 2-5pm. In return for your donation you'll receive a coupon for a free chicken sandwich. Looking for cleaning supplies (trash bags, bleach, brooms, blankets, detergent, work gloves, etc.)

This is a very small way to donate, if buying shirts is your thing. We designed some shirts that we are selling for $25 where all profit (around $7.75) per shirt goes to flood victims. So far we have sold 91 shirts, for a $653 donation, our goal is 400, which would be over $3000. You can buy them here: https://teespring.com/louisianaflood
There are stickers too with the design on them, but I don't know how much profit comes off of them.

Anyone know if there is a place in need of RN volunteers?
Posted on 8/16/16 at 7:41 am to PelicansBruh
If anybody in Houston wants to send anything to Baton Rouge I'm loading up a trailer and leaving Thursday. I'll be dropping off all donated items at one of the shelters then heading with a crew to start the cleanup effort. We have plenty of water already donated but will take other items. You can email me at jltigerdroppings@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping and I'll get you the drop off address.

Which online donation site is best for providing funds directly to the flood victims? I prefer a local charities.

If you are in an evacuation center and are healthy please help with cleaning and food service.

Is there an updated list somewhere of what is needed the most? I'm getting conflicting reports of what is needed.

Did you just show up at Celtic and ask to volunteer or did you sign up or call ahead of time?
Posted on 8/16/16 at 8:26 am to Icansee4miles
East Iberville HS in St. Gabriel could use volunteers.

At this point, clothes are not needed. I think that's all we know. Some shelters including Celtic have said that they are at full capacity on donations. If you want to donate something, I'd call a specific shelter first and see what they need.
Yesterday things I heard that were needed were hygiene products, cleaning products, phone chargers, toys or coloring books to keep kids occupied, and things for pets, like kennels, dog poop bags, food, leashes, etc.
