I figure it's better to start this now before things are over so people can coordinate. I"ll try to update the thread as I go along. If you have anything to contribute, please post contact information (phone, email, etc) of the organizations and possibly an address if necessary.

*ETA: I edited the title b/c the Lafayette area and Jeff Davis parish have some really hard-hit areas, too.

Peltier Park To Accept Donations For Flood Victims

Mayor Tommy Eschete has announced that both the Offices of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Thibodaux have organized a food and household goods drive starting today, Aug. 15 for the victims of the flood disaster in our neighboring parishes.

The City’s collection point will be located at the Peltier Park Recreation Center, 151 Peltier Park Drive.

Items will be accepted today from noon to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The collection effort will continue until further notice. It would be extremely helpful if items donated can be boxed so as to ease in the loading of trucks.

We will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items, household paper products, cleaning supplies, disposable diapers, bottled water, pet supplies and blankets. At this point we are not accepting clothing as there are many efforts in other areas which have already done that.

I have already alerted all the single mothers that work at the various "gentlemen's" clubs of your humanitarian offer of free housing and short-term moral support at your crib. Both Cheyenne and Sapphire seem excited.

Which brings me to my larger point. The best thing we can do, as I have done, is open your home to a family now and assist them with cleanup once the waters recede. It's time to pull together.

The sticky at the top and a thread on the OB has a lot of info about people needing and offering help, where to launch, where they are turning people (with boats) away, etc.

SFP, thanks for this thread. I am in Birmingham but I am going to return to Baton Rouge area to provide flood relief and clean up operations after the threat subsides.

I have emailed the EBR homeland security and emergency preparedness and I'm waiting to hear back for how I can help. If you have any leads please pass them along.

Channel 9 in Baton Rouge had a volunteer link on the crawler for volunteerlouisiana.gov.

But I can't find anything in flood volunteering and I'm not the type to go read to prisoners or similar.

Useless for trying to finding somewhere to go help. May just head to Celtic.

225-362-6771 Mike Manning at the Food Bank if you want to assist there getting that out. They were flooded out.

We need to set up something for Walker and denham, those places may take years to recover. It's amazing how little coverage this is getting.

Provided and served food yesterday at Celtic and the River Center. Was told last night that food would be handled by the higher ups from today on out. Does anyone know a good place that needs hot food? Maybe an evacuation spot? I have people donating stuff to be cooked and a local restaurant looking to offer their kitchen. Let me know

That, and I've heard over and over that the people that are being rescued are getting off the boats at certain places and have no way to get to where they need to go. People with trucks to transport these people to shelters would be a big help right now.

Go to the Louisiana Flood Rescue page on FB, there are people on there who could point you in the right direction.

ETA: Slo, that might be a good link to put in the OP.

Is there a recommended fund or organization or whatever that people from not there can donate to? Or just give to the Red Cross here and tell them what it's for? I'd like to do something to help y'all out.

i think direct charity to people or through churches is the best way but that's just my opinion

the United Way and Red Cross are going to be all over, i presume
