Two close calls. Not sure which was worse.
Drinking. 20 years old. Friend is on leave. We go way to hard partying. Im actually sobering up. Decide to drive home like idiots. He is driving because he wouldnt let me, and he is a big fricking dude who gets hostile while drinking.. So drunk he is puking on himself while driving. He is going 70-80 mph down Fowler in Tampa ignoring all lights. Terrifying. We almost went off the road or hit a car multiple times. I was so terrified I was about to call the cops on us to try to get it to stop. Like i knew I was dead. So I told him I was low and needed sugar. Despite being so drunk he could barely function he pulled over knowing what that meant as I was diabetic. I went inside and got stuff and watched him. Waited till he fell asleep in the truck. Then got the guy working there to help me put him in the truck bed. Drove home, left him in the truck bed to sleep it off. Just pure terrifying.
Second I got in a motorcycle accident at 60+ mph. Went through back window of a car. Not sure how I wasn't killed.

I was driving on winding Missouri backroads in the rain, not overly fast (maybe 45 MPH) but I'm coming down a hill on a curve to a small one lane bridge. Halfway down I can see there's a truck coming down from the opposite side and we're going to meet at the bridge.
Braking would have been too risky due to hydroplaning, so I let off the gas and grip the wheel. Somehow we pass on the bridge (probably because I was in a Ford Ranger) and as I start up the hill my heart is pounding a mile a minute and I taste a HUGE shot of adrenaline in my mouth. Scary shite.

My OCD took over my life to the point where it took so much from me that I grabbed a butcher knife from my kitchen and considered slitting my own throat. I was too big a pussy to do it, called my mom, and her voice pretty much saved my life.
At that point was when I decided to get help. Much bette now.
If you’re going through a tough time people, get help. It saved my life.

eta: just an OCD joke. glad ol boy is ok.

I was electrocuted when I was 4, evidently I thought it was a good idea to put an extension cord in my mouth and bite down, still have a scar on the side of my mouth from the burn.
When I was 8 a water moccasin got me on my ankle, I don’t know if I was in danger of dying but it sure felt like it.

I’m guessing my closest was a few weeks ago. Went down to my aunts to get a tarp for my 4 wheeler. Walked in the shed to get it and took a step to turn around. All the sudden I see a big flash of light that lit up the shed. Looked down at my foot and a fireball was coming out from under my flip flop. I had stepped on an electrical cord that was laying on the ground. I had stepped right on a bad part of the cord and the dew from the grass I walked thru basically caused a spark and fireball. I’m sure if I was barefooted I would’ve been electrocuted. Pretty sure I shite my pants.

Had stage 3 Reye Syndrome when I was 1 or 2. By the time they figured out what it was I was already in a coma. Doctors told my parents that there was nothing they could do and that I wasn't going to make it (this was in 72 or 73). But here I am.

I was coming back from a Client on 294 in Chicago. About six lanes wide, and I needed to exit right to come into the city. I was going about 65-70 mph. There was a semi in the third lane so I was passing him on the right. Just as he leaves my periphery, I feel my car jerk violently to the left. I immediately think, shite, I had a blowout. Well, the next thing I know I'm completely sideways sliding down the expressway at 60 mph...I look out my driver's side window and all I see is the grill of the semi.
I immediately turned my wheel all the way to the left, which popped me off the front of his truck. I was luckily able to maintain control, not get blasted by another car or truck, not roll my car, and not shoot back under his trailer. When it was happening, I remember thinking "is this what people think before they die?"
The truck driver never saw me, and had executed a perfect PIT maneuver on my car when he changed over into my lane...he thought he had a blowout so he never really slowed down during the accident.
tl;dr A semi performed a PIT maneuver on me at 60 mph on the Chicago expressway

december 2006 4ish am leaving New York for our hotel NJ in a taxi we had haggled down to $85.
hammered. on the jersey turnpike. the driver misses our exit, so we drunkenly yell at him and he slams on the brakes about 300y past the exit. stops IN THE MIDDLE LANE with lots of trucks and buses FLYING past, swerving around us and barely missing. this dude reverses, again, in the middle lane, and casually crosses traffic, exits.
after we get done yelling and cursing, my buddy, stone cold sober at this point says "well, that settles it, I'm bullet proof"
another time I was in the left lane eastbound on choctaw on a motorcycle. UPS truck was coming out the fuel man gas station trying to make a left.
he shot the gap in traffic in the RIGHT lane, and didnt see me putting along with traffic in the left. laid the bike down on its left side. I had planned to get away, but he pushed my bike onto my leg. the noise made him stop or I'd be flat. barely a scratch on me or the bike

1. Hydroplaned on the NJ Turnpike doing about 70. The roadway was dry except for one patch of water just over the top of a small bump. Couldn't see it until you were right on it. car spun 4 complete times without hitting a damn thing. Pulled to the next exit and changed my drawers
2. Woke up one night unable to breathe. had some sort of allergic reaction that closed my airway. Luckily an ambulance was in the area and hit me with an epipen. That was 20 years ago and I still have no idea what caused the reaction.
3. Not realy a close call but the pucker factor was real for a few minutes. My submarine took on water, lots of damn water due to a negligent watch stander. We were snorkeling with our diesel when the combination of overfilling ballast and taking in seawater through the snorkel caused our HVAC room to be filled with 5' of water. The room was approx 500sqft. The AC fans turned into pumps distributing water throughout the ship which caused a brief moment of stress filled confusion. One guy earned a medal for promptly shutting a valve that prevented the water from entering our battery well.

Your first one just reminded me of the Jacksonville incident I had.
Was riding on my old cruiser. Around midnight. It's pouring down raining but I am only 21 and broke at the time so couldn't get a hotel for the night. Brutal storm. Massive wind gust, lightning, etc.
My helmet was stolen off my bike that day while at dinner(date with a girl I had met off myspace LOL). Date went badly...so couldn't stay with her that night. I left it on the bike, came back it was gone.
So I'm driving in a massive storm, helmetless, with regular sun glasses so I can't see but maybe 2 car lengths in front of me at best.
Was on a bridge, high bridge. It had a sudden curve. I didn't see the curve warning because I was to busy looking at the markers on the road. All the sudden there is a small wall. I slammed my back brakes and then hit the front. Luckily I was going about 45-50 and no one was behind me. I came inches from hitting the wall. Which would have flung me over into the ocean and I was not surviving that.
Drove all the way back to Gainesville in that storm. With no gear. It is so dark driving back that I can't see the road at all and only see the markers. So I trailed cars but had to keep pace with them because it was too hard to see when the road curved with the storm. I basically decided that I was going to die that night and it was what it was. My license was suspended so I couldn't park under a bridge for fear of being pulled over as well. Same with parking under the gas pumps at a gas station. Was ride and pray.

One time that stands out happened a while back. Young and dumb with my buddies out at their camp in the middle of no where. We had been drinking and wanted to go ride down an old gravel back road. One dude said he wasn't that drunk and would drive. We are only going 25 mph listening to music. A big S curve was coming up. Driver passes out before it and the guy in the passenger seat yells for him to wake up. I'm in the back seat, passenger side. Driver wakes up and hits the gas instead of the brake then turns. Truck goes sliding off the rode into this 15' ditch. Looking back I don't know how it didn't roll over. That canal/ditch is usually full of water but it was an unseasonably dry year. Had it been full no way we would have gotten out of the truck. We get out and run back 4 miles to the camp. Check it out the next morning and there's a tree indented into the side of the truck not 2 feet from the window my head was leaning on. Scared all of us.

From reading this whole thread, it’s apparent that driving is fricking dangerous.

Route Irish, Iraq.
Haji hollowed out the back of a palm tree and tucked a 155 round in it.
Thankfully the way they positioned it is almost made a V shaped blast which went around our 5ton. Aside from busted windows, tires and ear drums we all made it out fine. Towed the truck back to the FOB.

Being an EMT and getting called to a scene with a shooter to provide medical support to a SWAT team.. got shot at, but bullets only hit cover I was behind with other SWAT team members.

All I can say is the MANY close calls I experienced helped my to recognize that God was watching over me while I did everything I could do to self-destruct. I quit the herb, got drinking under control and stopped experimenting with whatever someone offered to get a buzz. I enjoy my life now and have been given so many blessings from placing my faith in Jesus.
