I know several people that swear by it, and I don't think it's a placebo, as they have tried everything under the Sun for many years to get rid of the pain, and this is the only thing that has worked. I don't doubt for one second that there are "fake" CBD products out there that scammers are peddling. But in and of itself, I wouldn't blanket label CBD as snake oil.

It works for seizures, without question. I also have several patients who swear by it for their arthritis pain, to the point where they have stopped taking their daily ibuprofen/Tylenol that they’ve been on for years.

Local/regional convenience store chain sells this stuff.

But not condoms.

Annoying as hell when you know you're going to tear off a hunk and have to drive across town to stock up.

originally from the south but I’m in Oregon now. CBD is huge here, obviously because we grow it. I have met many many people who have benefited from CBD long before this “muh snake oil” thing started. It’s odd to me many calling it snake oil or either ignorant to its benefits or have never tried it.

While it’s used for pain, anxiety and inflammation I know parents who have used it for their kids severe seizures and stomach issues. A friend gives it to her autistic child instead of pharmaceuticals. My SO takes it for her chronic pain as she is still recovering, and will be for life, from a brain surgery.

There are many products out there. The key is finding the brand that works for you and not the hemp oil people are selling as CBD. CBD needs a small amount of THC to do its job... less than 3% thc is the legal limit on being able to call it CBD.

I realize I am privileged in that I buy organic CBD direct from farmer and make my own oil. Capsules, edibles and pain rubs. Oil to give to my dog who is 8.5 and getting signs of dementia.... trying to find a good treat recipe. It keeps him calm and others who use it for their dog say the same... it helps that it’s infused in coconut oil which is also beneficial for dogs. People have benefited from my capsules for pain, anxiety, lowering blood pressure and relieving the tremors that come with Parkinson’s. I take it to help me relax and my job is physical so I take it before I work. The pain rub works well too, but I find it’s better with the thc oil in it. The marijuana plant is amazing and I’ve seen first hand the benefits besides the high... thc and CBD were meant to work harmoniously together.

It’s my opinion/experience that CBD works better when the thc is still present. Some CBD companies have 0% thc in theirs.... so that tells me they’ve processed it enough to remove the thc or they aren’t being entirely truthful.... the only CBD oils I’ve tried are mine and the one I originally got for my pup. I prefer my own. CBD can be extremely beneficial if you find the right supplier. The problem is there’s so much of it flooding the market. My best advice to people is to buy it from someone who makes it themselves or from a company that can tell you where it came from. I also think sungrown, organic has more healing properties than indoor sprayed. Just in my experience

My wife swears by it. Her friend in CO sends her some every month.

I've tried it a few times, but haven't noticed any benefit from it. But I generally don't have much anxiety or joint problems, or really any issues it claims to help.

She did get some topical salve I've put on some achy muscles before and noticed some relief, so there's that...

CBD is legit especially if you combine it with a little heroin, trust me it’ll cure any pain you’ve got

Again- please post a link to any quality study (JAMA, NEJM, Lancet, other) that show any benefit, including seizures.

For a super comprehensive review on the current evidence, science behind it, and more than you would ever want to know about this, look here.
As the above mentions, there is currently level 1 evidence to support the use of CBD in seizure disorders, especially in kids.

Here is a meta analysis and systemic review regarding the evidence in seizure disorders.

Here is one of the RCTs.

You seem pretty knowledgeable about quality studies, so you probably know that RCTs and meta-analyses are considered quality evidence.

Also, as one of those articles notes, there is now an FDA approved CBD-based drug for seizures.

Same here. I've never tried any of it, but one of my best friends swears it helps her to sleep while everything else that worked gave her the hangover effect. This is a girl that smoked weed for half her life, she has no reason to lie about it. Even if it only works because you think it works, than it still 'works'.

I bought some CBD gummies as kind of a flyer at local shop in NYC during the workday and ate about 4 of them. About 40 minutes later, it was like a someone just flipped off the "give a frick" meter. I was completely relaxed, and was quite plainly doing my job, without any stress whatsoever. Compared it to that scene in "office space" where he goes to the hypnotist, hypnotist dies, and he just brushes everything off.

Don't use them a lot, but it's great to get grounded without having to get high, or, reach for alcohol.

Those pills are extremely addictive, and if we are talking about anxiety meds, benzos make you borderline retarded and forgetful, and completely changes your personality.

You can do every day tasks while high on weed. Xanax, not so much.

The "articles" you cite (all 3) were specifically about CBD oils as an additional treatment (NOT first line) in the treatment of refractory seizure in patients with two very unusual forms of seizure(Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.) It was not clear if the benefit was directly due to CBD oil or if cbd oil made the main drug more effective. Also, patients on CBD oil had more side effects (not listed what side effects) than patients on placebo.

Despite the claims of a "super comprehensive review", the best evidence is that a few studies suggest a benefit as a add-on medicine to pts with extremely rare form of seizures.

CBD oils contain potentially hundreds of compounds that may be beneficial, or harmful. Also, there is probably tons of variation between different strain/makers of cbd oil. We need time and study to either prove or disprove the usefulness of cbd oil and its components.

This thread really goes to show that's its more snake oil than anything else at this point-its great for sleep, seizures (all seizures?), arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis), anxiety, stomach issues, autism, pain from brain surgery, dementia, htn, tremors- and it also work for dogs. All this in less than 2 pages.

When CBD was legalized this summer (in LA) I bought some CBD oil. It isn't magic, but it has its uses. It helps with my restless legs at night, and i tend to sleep better overall.

Legally, CBD oils can contain up to .03% THC, so most of the purveyors say this is enough to enhance the effects of the CBD.

To be fair, I gave some to a family member who thought it was completely worthless. YMMV.

If you're going to buy it, I would recommend a quality tincture from Oregon or Colorado, where they have experience growing cannabis. Some of the CBD crystals are being imported from overseas, and are questionable at best.

It's both. Real CBD can do great things. Fake or improperly prepared CBD is garbage. Valuable things are counterfeited.

Kind of amazing there have been no true studies on it.

There have been studies on it but the data is messy. Pretty safe to assume it could be helpful with anxiety and it is definitely helpful for seizures/epilepsy based on the data out there - individual differences are always at play here, though.

The federal government has completely fricked the research effort by irresponsibly making it schedule 1.

"articles"

They are studies in legit academic journals, so I'm not sure why you put "articles" in quotes except to be condescending because you've already made up your mind on this issue.

I can agree to this. Too bad government scheduling of marijuana has been prohibitive to widespread research to know potential benefits and harms of CBD and the hundreds of other cannabinoids.

In what way? You've haven't even come close to proving your point.

Snake oil people are dumb and will believe anything.

People used to believe in blood letting, cocaine for tooth pain, meth for insomnia etc.

People still do the ear candling thing and believe it works.

I am very reluctant to try anything remotely "home remedy" or homeopathic, that is 99% BS. Both my wife and I have severe arthritis, my wife's hands are almost unusable, she couldn't open bottle without help if her life depended on it. I have it in my hands and upper spine.

My primary care doc is the one who recommended I try CBD, it has been a game changer. Yesterday I did a lot of work around the house, by last night my hand were killing me. CBD oil gave me relief to the point that I don't take NSAIDS anymore.
