Kind of amazing there have been no true studies on it.

CBD Interest Among Americans Surpasses Nearly All Other Health Products: ‘This Generation’s Snake Oil’
quote:
Amazingly, CBD search queries in the United States grew by 125% in 2017, followed by an additional 160% in 2018. In 2019, that statistic is expected to increase by another 180%. The phenomena isn’t contained to just one or two states or areas of the country either. Researchers say searches increased in every single U.S. state, ranging from a 211% increase in Oklahoma to a 605% increase in Alabama.
quote:
“Three years ago, there was essentially no one searching about CBD online, but now there are an estimated 6.4 million unique searches each month.”
quote:
Despite this incredible boom in popularity and assumed subsequent use, the study’s authors caution that the jury is still very much out on whether or not CBD is actually effective.
“At this time there are no known benefits for taking CBD over-the-counter,” explains Dr. Davey Smith, Chief of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health at UC San Diego. “CBD is this generation’s snake oil, where millions are engaging with the product without evidence of any benefit.”

Some of the oils maybe. The flower and edibles do have legit effects in my own experience.

Placebo
Well, the mind is a powerful thing. If I had some ailment and started taking CDB and it worked, I wouldn't care if it was the drug or the placebo effect.

I had some of the flower and kief and it wasn't placebo. I was around 26 or 27%.

It is real, both edible and tincture work for sleeping easy, pain-free; and anxiety when a tornado is on the ground very near during a Hurricane 30 miles from the ocean dropping so many twisters I lost count. (The jeep guy in N Myrtle probably used it as well.)

This, like so many people's usage of herbs and homeopathic solutions have more to do with a lack of faith in doctors and big pharma than anything. Modern medicine and health advances are great but a lot of people are looking for better alternatives in certain situations (right or wrong) because of the mistrust in our healthcare system.

There are studies but don't expect MSM or the likes to tout it much.
The studies are fairly conclusive that CBD does help with seizures, anxiety and some chronic pain conditions. I think the pain/arthritis ones show more success with the THC CBD than they do with the THC free versions.

Don’t like weed so I haven’t tried CBD. Every thing people claims it does like help with pain and anxiety we already have pills that do it better. It’s apparently good for seizures and other things that don’t have such good modern medication which if that’s true people with those ailments should go for it.

I tried it for aches and pains and to help me sleep.
But it didn't work for me

It is more a reflection of people learning more about wellness and creating a healthy stable body instead of reacting to issues/illness.
Both worlds are necessary but the better you take care of your body you can prevent the situations that cause many people to end up on medicines.

If it's made with hemp its snake oil to the CBD that is actually derived from the cannabis plant, the requires THC to activate the CBD properties properly.

Its as real as you think it is. Just like everything else.

Placebos can reduce blood pressure, decrease time in the hospital, aid healing, even put the brakes on an ‘incurable’ disease. The placebo effect is so powerful that in a rigorous study on active manual labor, researchers found that thinking you were doing exercise turned out to be just as important as actually doing exercise. The study found that the human metabolism (and long-term health) were directly impacted by the story we tell ourselves about exercise. Even more extraordinary to consider is that the placebo effect can be learned, and that even if it doesn’t work the first time, repeated attempts lead to improved results.

Legit stuff!! Just like my platinum coated copper bracelet! That thing has helped me for years and cut 20 strokes off my golf game.

I tried the pain cream for my lower back and it helped me.

MY SIL has RA and has suffered for years with it and none of the prescribed stuff has really helped. About two years ago she started using CBD cream and it has given her relief, ....even if it is all in her head as many would suggest.

please cite a source. I doubt there are any quality studies. (JAMA, NEJM, The Lancet, etc)

the federal government has not legalized cannabis and continues to enforce restrictive policies and regulations on research into the health harms or benefits of cannabis products that are available to consumers
to the best of my knowledge, there are no good studies either way. It has been illegal to do studies; therefore, no federal funding.
