They got Great Whites over there?
the sea temp was 79° so my guess is a tiger shark. Dorsal fin was hard to tell but definitely either a Tiger or Great White.

Why was the Russian tourist who filmed the incident exclaiming in English?
This was my take away as well. I always wonder that.

News reports are saying “Egyptian authorities” said they have caught the shark, a tiger, and are studying it to understand why it displayed abnormal behavior.

Holy shite that was crazy. The shark was just messing around at first then it went to fricking town at the end. Now I know why brothers fear nature so much.

I u derstand geography well enough, but when I think of Egypt, I think more of the pyramids, the desert, and the Nile delta. For whatever reason, I don't think beaches and shark attacks.
Yikes.

Honestly, after the last couple of weeks I didnt know sharks even attacked people much less ate them.
From the other thread you would think they were vegetarians.

Word. That’s why they built the Suez Canal. So people could see the Pyramids and desert so much easier.

if you want to look at it that way, sure - I have been in the water at Dauphin island and had sharks swim between me and shore, and seen them within a few feet of the shore line. i have caught them fishing. i just prefer to stay out of their habitat.
I don't have to go into the water to enjoy the beach - in fact when I go, it is usually to fish - and i can do that from the sand.

Culling of sharks has become greatly restricted over the last few decades.
Kind of reminds me of what happened with alligators in Florida. When I was a kid in Central Florida back in the early 60's, we spent many days in one of the lakes near my home. There were white sand beaches pumped in and little kids played in the shallows. There was never a threat of an alligator attack.
Then alligators became a "protected species" thanks to some idiot in DC. Now every body of water has big gators.
Looks like that is happening with sharks now.

You yell barracuda and people say huh, what?
You yell shark and we’ve got ourselves a panic on the 4th of July.

You see that video? You hear that crowd? That's what it looks and sounds like when a shark attacks and drags someone under.
That's nothing like with the kid who jumped off the boat.

Looked like the shark jumped him at the end. Very disrespectful.

As it should be.
They belong in the ocean. That is their environment and home. Removing them from it in large numbers simply for our comfort and security will do way more harm than good. Shark attacks on humans are quite rare in the grand scheme of things. Allowing hysteria to dictate policy will never be the answer.

I hear they make good cat food and shark fin soup.
One solution to keep sharks away from beaches might be to use drones where they can easily be spotted. The drones could drop cherry bombs or some other deterrent to ward them off before they take some kids arm off.
Might be able to create sonic barriers kind of like convenience stores do to ward of teenagers hanging out in their parking lots. They play a high frequency sound that teens can hear, but older people can not.

I'd rather be eating them than they eating me.
