So this public transit, to which I pay a significant portion of my property taxes, does ONE thing that I utilize. That being rides to LSU Stadium and now they aren't doing that. Their excuses are pretty thin, no buses lost but they were "damaged" and some staff had homes flooded. ???

quote:

The Capital Area Transit System will not offer its Touchdown Express bus service for at least the first few LSU football games as the agency tries to restore normal operations in the wake of the region's severe flooding. The special routes have been used to shuttle riders to Tigers games from various points in the city, particularly downtown.

n a Wednesday statement, interim CEO Bill Deville said Touchdown Express won't run in September, but he hopes the service will resume later in the season.

CATS didn't lose any buses in the flood but several were damaged while moving evacuees, according to the statement. CATS assisted in the evacuation of approximately 6,000 people.

The agency is also facing staffing concerns, as 43 drivers and about a dozen mechanical and administrative employees were affected by the floods.

call me crazy but I'll give the folks who lost property and potentially friends/family in the flood a pass for not wanting to drive a bunch of drunks to a football game.

Why don't you drive yourself to the 2 games affected?

That's awesome.

The only time 97% of the property tax payers ever set foot on them.

The article should read that the real reason they won't be doing it is

They're needed to be driving around town empty elsewhere at that time

What a joke

I live in the area too. Life goes on and I am at work doing my job. CATS drivers can do theirs.

People need to get off the pity train and put on their big boy shorts. Handle your business and quit crying.

i keep reading this on this board time and time again. Is this really true? I'm curious what the numbers are.

Maybe this is a reason BR is behind the times and won't ever be anything but a backwoods hick town. Do the people of BR really have a stigma against using public transportation? they bitch about public transportation while bitching about how bad the traffic is. Smh

There's 10 sketchy homeless dudes at every bus stop. Probably why no one uses it

good lord man.
I was on Airline by Goodwood yesterday at 4:30 and saw the bus next to me in traffic. 3 people on it, which is more than normal.

I guess i'm a backwoods hick kind of guy for not wanting to drive 10 minutes to catch the bus, since this bus that I pay for doesn't pass anywhere near my house.

Until they recently changed some of the routes, the buses basically followed the homicide map of Baton Rouge and took those people to the mall. Now they make it look like it goes more places where white people live, but no one is riding the bus and it is a complete waste of money and road space.

Bus stops are always placed in the sketchiest corners of town. I'm not sure which way the cause and effect goes

This is a good example of white privilege in a majority black town.

CATS is already anticipating the empty seats in Tiger Stadium this season.

This is a pretty dumb post.

The entire bus system is set up for north Baton Rouge, they don't run any of the routes in locations the property tax paying public would use them.

To answer your other question yes, any time you see one its just driving around empty.
