Wife and I had a cat that decided to pee in our guest bedroom closet a couple years ago. We’ve tried a few things to try and eliminate the smell that just seems to work temporarily, if at all. We’ve kinda just dealt with it since the room doesn’t get used much but it’s about to become a nursery and I want to try to make sure I exhaust all options before tearing out the carpet. Anyone have any ideas? I read good things about Clorox urine spray and I haven’t tried that yet.

The cat is long gone so that solution has already happened.

Amazon has some pretty good product or you can Go to Walmart etc.
I hear you about the cat urine - I used to have a cat that would piss in my gym bag

My dad got randomly fussed at by the doctor when he went to the urologist

After talking with the doctor for a bit, the doctor seemed distant and my dad asked "what is it"

That doctor said "urine trouble"

anti icky poo unscented version or try zero odor pet odor eliminator. be liberal and treat twice if you need to.

anti icky poo might not work as well if you already used other chemicals at it. you'd then need their prewash formula and then go with anti icky poo.

both of these products work well to get rid of the urine smell as they both have enzymes to break down the odor. other stuff may just mask it.

the pet odor zero will have a funny bleach like smell while it works, but it will go away and leave no scent behind.

If it is carpet, just rip it out and replace.

My first concern is your cat.
He hasn't peed for a couple of years?
I suggest you negotiate relief for your cat, but only in a designated place outside the home.
This can be a win-win solution and your cat will be much more happy.

also i would get a pump sprayer to attack the walls and floor. the entire closet.

don't mess with clorox etc imo. anti icky poo is the truth, but they say you have to use the prewash if you already used other cleaners. that prewash needs to be diluted. the anti icky poo formula i would use straight up in the pump sprayer.

My cat pissed on all my clothes when I first got her. Angry Orange was the only thing that worked.

For everyone giving dog or other urine advice, cat urine is different and if you don't break down the enzymes it will just continue with the smell.

I got my entire deposit back from an apartment where we trained our puppy by doing this:

1. Re-wet the area where the cat could've peed with a water and vinegar solution. Try to get it saturated all the way down to the subfloor if you can, just don't like pour a bucket of water on your carpet.

2. Sprinkle a shite load of baking soda over the top of your now-wet carpet.

3. Wait a few hours while the baking soda absorbs and shop vac it up.

4. Repeat until you reach the result you want.

I also used the Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer between treatments to break down the smell. It smells kinda funky but it eventually goes away. It's an enzyme mixture so it's supposed to break down the urine instead of covering it up.

and if you ever get really desperate after all else fails you could buy or rent an ozone generator to put in the room for a little while, but these are very dangerous to breathe, so you and any living creatures would need to be outside of the house when you run it and then give it enough time to air out before getting back in there.

i don't think you'll need to do this.

yeah, you really need to use a formula with enzymes to break down cat urine. all that other stuff isn't as effective and the smell can return after treatments. i don't like the smell of nature's miracle. i highly recommend anti icky poo no scent or zero odor pet.

if you use enough enzyme solution enough times the smell will go away for good.

sounds like the cat pee'd there more than a few times. the pee/smell is likely into the slab. good luck.

Cedar saw dust, leave it there for a few days, urine is probably saturated into the base boards….

First, get rid of the cat. If you think that's the only place it has gone outside it's box, then you don't know cats.

Second, get rid of the cat.

Third, mask the odor, put the house up for sale and buy a house that is free of the cat smell.

Fourth, get rid of the cat so it doesn't ruin your new home.
