You don't want to bathe a cat unless they've gotten extremely dirty and won't be able to groom themselves, or if they've gotten something toxic on their coat and would be dangerous to groom themselves.

This. But, I do have it groomed (don't know what they use) by the vet when they get their annual shots and physical.

Had to do it other time because it's shite was stuck to its tail

When it accidentally drinks out of a spitter and does a shite shuffle across the floor you bathe them. Other than that, nope.

I wouldn't. Once they hit that litter box it's back to square one.

I know this is another one of my bullshite stories, but this thread reminded me of it.

This girl I worked with, she is an industrial engineer and she was telling me that at another job she worked with this older guy who was also an industrial engineer, but he was strange as hell.

She said one day he came to work and had bandaids on his face, neck and hands and they asked him what happened. She goes on to tell them that he decided to try to wash his 3 cats while he was showering. He had the cats in the tub with him and when he turned on the water they went nuts. He bent down to try to calm them down and they scratched him all up before jumping out.

And I remember we were laughing at it and talking about why did he think that was a good idea since cats are known to hate water..

So with that said.. While I am not a cat owner, I doubt many cat owners do bath their cats.

Yeah, Achsah would bathe her cat often. The cat always loved to play when in the tub.

There usually isn't a reason to. They keep themselves pretty clean.

If so, how often?

you arent supposed to, it removes the oil from their skin and causes dry skin irritation and excess dander

we only did it when the little shite got into something nasty like a sewerage ditch or oil and grease from a car engine or something like a flea bath.

just be sure if you bath it to use baby shampoo so it doesnt burn their eyes and keep the ears dry, if water gets in the ears they get ear infections

I found a 4-5 week old kitten when I was changing a tire where 240/385 join together in Memphis a few years ago. I washed her when I brought her home because she was filthy; we haven't washed her since then. She was only 4 weeks old and tiny but still fricked my forearms up pretty good when I washed her in the sink

I have only visited Reddit a few times and its not easy to navigate... Which is why this is pretty much the only message board I post on.

Why do cats hate water so much?

Not a joke just genuinely curious and have any of you cat owners had a cat that enjoyed water and would swim in it.

Because a pussy is always wet?

Since your question sounded like you were about to tell a joke I was trying to think of a response and that's all I could come up with.

If it is a long hair kitten, trim and brush his behind so no dingleberries form.

I put lipstick on my cat's butt. All day long, wherever she sits, it leaves little kisses everywhere.

I've done it on occasion, but not very often. You really don't need to. Plus they frickin' hate it.

Google says it's either their species evolved in dry climates, or that they don't like what it does to their fur
