This.

Use the creit card as if it were a debit card.

It earns us enough points to pay for the flights to at least one vacation a year.

Plus, if there's any fraudulent activity, the credit card companies handle it with a quickness since it's their money, not yours.

I had a couple thousand's dollars of fraudulent activity on my debit card 2 years ago. It took 3 months and a half dozen trips to BOA before I got my money back.

The last time I had fraudulent purchases on my credit card, 1 call put a stop to it and it was removed from my bill in 5 minutes

If at any point it's in a bank that's not how it works. The IRS has your bank information.

debit card should only be used to get cash out of the atm. you are leaving a lot of credit card rewards on the table

THIS!

I never use my debit card for anything except to pull cash out of the ATM. And I never use cash unless I have to or it's more convenient to do so (ex. barber shop, concessions at football games).

Unless you are financially irresponsible, you can get a lot of "free" money/points by just using your CC and paying it off in full at the end of the month. My family usually gets around $1,000 in "cash back" at the end of the year just in rewards. It's nice to have that for Christmas gifts for kids, etc.

Cash is extremely valuable to have just about anywhere where you'll need to tip.

correct, that's why you don't take a check or put it in the bank.

I use cash for almost everything. You can’t track cash, but you can track a card.

I keep about $20 in cash on me “just in case” at all times. I think I’ve had the same bill in my wallet since January.

If they take credit cards, why not just tip on the card?

I know some places out there still don't take credit cards, but they are few and far between.

This is smart and I've considered doing the same.

Cut up the debit card and ask the bank for an ATM-only card with no charge capability.

I don't trust bartenders with my card. Or most waiters for that matter.

Debit.. for the reason OP posted as well as being able to track not only number of purchases but the amount down to the cent. I hate having cash and change everywhere.

Debit card. Don't have to handle cash. If I lose my wallet or get it stolen, I can cancel the card and no harm done.

I almost exclusively use rewards credit cards though and I just pay off the balance frequently so I don't get interest charges.
