I have been seeing cars with this black and white camouflage a lot lately. This one has been driving around a lot in downtown Chicago. I finally caught a photo of it this morning and I thought the OT could figure out what it actually was.

It was some kind of SUV, and has a lot of black tape and a strange black and white finish pattern. There is a black covering on the rear end too, and no badges or company logos. There was a lot of computer equipment on the dashboard but I didn’t get a close look at that.

Are these some kind of autonomous test vehicles for Uber or various car manufacturers? I saw a pickup truck with a similar finish a couple of weeks back in the same area.

I didn’t see a camera on the top like the Google Street View cars have.

My apologies for the blurry photo. It was driving pretty quickly.

Manufacturers use the pattern to help disguise the unique exterior designs of their new model vehicles.

Yep. The checkered pattern hides the lines in the vehicle shape..... But I mean really who cares.

Yeah those are usually test models for upcoming vehicles. That pattern screws with cameras so the car media “paparazzi” and others can’t get good photos before they’re officially announced.

Which is why the pic in the OP is blurry.

Test vehicle, the patterns and tape are to throw you off on actual body lines and shape

You talking about trucks made me think of Ford Ranger. I pray that is not the new Ford Bronco in your picture.

It's all about marketing. You see a strange vehicle and you investigate on the web. Ploy seems to be effective.

If it’s a test vehicle, you might be right. Either that or a Lexus/Acura thing.

Headlight signature looks similar to that.
