Carnival barkers in supermarkets, etc.

This wasn't a thing when I lived in Louisiana, not sure if they do it now. Here in Texas, when I go to Walmart it seems like there are half a dozen "carnival barkers" that set up little kiosks inside store, trying to get you to switch: cell phone companies, Internet providers, electric companies, etc. It's annoying as hell. Seems to be getting worse / more prevalent over the past decade. This just a local issue or is it everywhere? How do you deal with these people?

Ignore them or just say nope. It's easier if you avoid eye contact.

I usually look at them and "mouth" something like "F**k you" in their direction.
I had never considered the term "carnival barkers". Thanks for the idea. My new comment will be "F**k you, clown."

Costco has these. I do not like either.

Give them the train-wreck turkey-neck stare as you pass, without speaking.
If you do it right, they won't even try to engage.

Until boomers start retiring, jobs like these are the only ones millenials can get

They want me to switch to TMobile? Tell them I have TMobile.
They want me to switch to AT&T? Tell them I have AT&T.
They want me to switch to Spectrum? Tell them I have Spectrum.
It’s a quick response that doesn’t piss anybody off.

I’m in Texas. I go in Walmarks maybe a handful of times a year. I have never seen this tho.

Sam's Club as well. Actually, in addition to the typical phone companies and such - sometimes Sam's has the FULL ON carnival show. I'm talking about a guy with a mic'd headset doing a full TV-style infomercial for Ginsu knives or whatever. Cutting a tin can in half and then giving a free knife to the members of the crowd that watched the performance.
I'm actually less annoyed by these people than the T-Mobile assholes.

They all pay to be there I'm fairly certain. My daughters team tried to do a fundraiser at the local Walmart recently and they have some sort of scheduling software they use that was down for the day, Walmart made them leave because they didn't have them scheduled.
Unless they are doing it for a non-profit, I'm fairly certain all those vendors pay the store something.

Don't see that too much but there's usually a church youth group raising money for their mission trip to some place that always includes a stop at the beach in Destin.

You are not obligated to look at them, look away, or say anything at all. You are obligated not to stab, shoot them or KTTFO.

The Bass Pro Shops Timeshare salespeople are the worst.

Oh, I remember a team of guys who would essentially trap you into a discussion about Direct TV at Best Buy.
Saw the same guys a few weeks later at Sam's. They are just guys desperate to make a few bucks. Talked with one of them who was a network engineer....had certs and all that good stuff about 5 years ago.
