And Kias and Hyundai’s are piece of shite vehicles. Fantastic looking and they have all the bells and whistles but they’re engines are complete trash and the nice cosmetic stuff quickly starts to “cheapen”. Been in the automotive business for 20 years and got roped in by the better half to get her a Sportage in 2012. Engine blew at 70,000 miles. Kia has a 100,000 mile power train warranty however if you by a demo, loaner or used (still under bumper to bumper and for this thread we will say 20,000 miles on the used options) car , the power train warranty is null and void (because you didn’t buy the car (new off the lot) in all three of those cases. They had a recall for engine failure from 2012-2016(?) and just so happens this Sportage (2012) didn’t have the correct variance of vin # to be covered under the recall. Yet when paying $7,500.00 to have the engine rebuilt with all new parts (inside and out) the parts installed were the same exact parts that the engine recall called to replace. I’m still thinking our day will come and we will see that money again (and they’ve since added more vin #s to the recall but not the entire generation of motor as of yet. Kia/Hyundai (one in the same) is fricking junk.
TLDR: Kia/Hyundai do not deserve your business. I can if you’ve gotten lucky already. Pain is coming.

I just passed down my work car to one of the kids. It is a 2009 Accord with 280,000 miles.
It runs like a sewing machine.

We have a 2012 that has 65k on it and has been paid off for years. Plan on giving it to my daughter in 3 years or so.

You can get a toyota yaris for $16k.
Yes, but my point was that midsize sedans are getting more and more expensive. A Yaris isn't a viable means of transportation for a lot of people.

Instead of a rear view mirror, my dad's new Silverado has a video screen. It's cool and all, but an improvement? Nah.
Is it literally a video screen, or is it a mirror that shows the backup camera when in reverse? If it's the former, hopefully it or the camera never malfunctions...

You gotta go 96 months out just to make the note affordable on a $40,000 car.

It's literally a video screen. Very distracting to go from looking at the road ahead to a video rear view and back. I wouldn't want one in my vehicle.

Except they don't:
Base Camry: $24,095
Base Accord: $23,720
I take your point that the $35k+ models are the top of their lines and represent a small portion of total sales, but when the top of the line models increase in price, so do the base models.
Sub $20k today puts you in the base Civic ($19,450), and base Corolla ($19,500).
Not sure where I got $20k for the midsizes. Still though, cars are much cheaper than the OT would have you think. Just look at all the posts acting like you can't buy a new car for less than $40k.

Cars are lasting longer with very competitive warranties imo.

Great, I’m ready to get a new truck. Hopefully these assholes will finally get their heads out of their asses and start offering ten year financing. Truck nuts included!!!

I plan on driving my 2012 model SUV until it becomes more expensive to fix it than it is to get a new car - and I'm hoping that's far in the future.
I hate going to dealerships. Cars last a very long time now; and I have no desire to use mine as a status symbol and couldn't give two shits what its hypothetical 0 to 60 time is as I drive the speed limit to and from work.

2019 subuaro outback sport.. 4 cylnder 175 hp for 31k?
Wife has the 18’ with the bigger engine (they quit making it). Has everything you can get in one. Paid 37-38k I think. She loves it. Gets 22-23 in the city and 28-30 on the hwy. that dude will get after it.
If you’re in BR, the Subaru of BR folks are good people. They are about to expand as well.

Cars (really trucks and SUVs, mostly) are high as giraffe's balls.
I mean, yeah I'm old (wanna fight about it?), but cars today cost what houses did 20, 25 years ago.

I saw a 240 month note on a boat
Have you priced boats lately? A mid-level manufacturers 26-27 ft LOA open bow will run you $120-$140k new. 25' bay boat 80-100k. A 32' express cruiser over $300k. I can ride a mile or so each way from my camp and see millions of dollars in boats on lifts. While all of them weren't bought new a lot were and the majority of these baws didn't pay cash.
