A few times recently my 2021 4Runner developed a pretty good shake in the steering wheel. It’s happened at slow, medium, and higher speeds, and then it goes away. I can’t figure it out, I don’t think it’s the brakes because it’s doing this without hitting the brakes. I took it to a garage and told them and one of the techs drove it around and nothing happened. They checked the tires and wheels and they looked fine.

So OT mechanics, what do you think?

No clue. But it sounds serious/dangerous.

The blinker fluid on one side has less than the other side, which is causing it to be out of balance and make it shake

I had similar issues with a bad drive shaft bearing. In a Tundra, so it might be a Toyota thing.

Could just be out balance tires. Could also just be low air pressure but you would probably have a light.

Not death wobble, doesn't have a solid front axle.

Possible Suspension Components: Tie rods, Ball Joints, bushings etc..

Though, those wouldn't likely cause intermittent issues as you described.

The first time it was, but others it was pretty smooth.

Until you said it was happening without the brakes, my first guess was warped brake rotors. Happens a little more as the summer heat sets in.

Tires out of balance would be the first thing to check.

Get your suspension system looked at if you don’t know what to look for. Watch out for an unnecessary suspension sell from unscrupulous mechanics. Maybe watch a YouTube video on what to look for so you can see if their being honest.

Could be something very simple like a worn out bushing which can come and go as your suspension moves.
