"Dude, walk. I work at a dealership (parts, not sales) and I usually take up for them, but if this went down exactly as you say, find another dealer. Why would you want to do business with them now anyway?"
If you work at a dealership then you realize you're only getting half the story and this isn't how it went down.

car is no different from any other physical item, in this case. I mean, most boutiques in town won't even put a dress on "hold" for more than an hour unless you have a personal relationship with them.
Then the seller needs to be very specific with “nothing is being held at this time, and you may lose the item” and all is fair game

Across the board, a middleman is almost always a scourge to positive progress.
How much do your purchase direct-to-consumer in your daily life? Every store you enter is a middleman, of sorts.

If that was said or communicated to us in any way then I wouldn't have waited until my wife's rotation was over. I hate waiting. I had everything in order from insurance quote to finances (lump sum mostly d2 interest rates) in order to make it fast.

I would assume a "no deposits" policy would outline this, but I'll let the manager speak for himself.

Dealerships ruined their credibility with me personally when they tried to pull some shite on my wife and I a couple years ago. Agreed on a trade in price for my wife’s barely used vehicle (had to upgrade due to baby on the way). The salesman’s “guy” went out to look the car over while we negotiated final price on new vehicle. 10 minutes goes by and the “guy” comes in and says the new trade in price is $2k under what salesman told us before. Said it was because the sunroof wouldn’t go all the way back and went through a whole dramatic monologue how difficult it was going to be to fix it. I immediately knew what he was doing so I got up and headed outside to the trade in car and the salesman started following me.
The sunroof has two buttons, one to lift the sun roof glass and one to slide it back. His “guy” was only pushing the slide back button and claiming it was stuck. The look on that dudes face when I showed him that was priceless and I will always cherish that memory.
Funny how a guy that works with cars every day didn’t know how a sunroof works and also even funnier that would take $2k off the trade in price.

Then what is the purpose of taking a check?

I work for a dealership and I must say thats fricked up. Thats a golden rule, if there is money in house the vehicle isnt available unless the customer backs out or it's taking the customer a lot more time to complete the deal than they originally said.

My response was to a side conversation from a "no deposits" sales manager.
In the OP's situation, the dealership took a deposit on a vehicle and sold it from under him.

dealership added a $300 surcharge for nitrogen in the tires.
That is the biggest scam out there.
Just ask them how much nitrogen is already in the air you're breathing.(hint - 78%)

Oh I would've totally put something similar but since I started the thread despite how aggrevating I can't come off unhinged

if you placed a deposit on the vehicle, then the vehicle is yours. don't walk. use this to your advantage and make them come off a lot more on the one that you choose next. let them know that you don't feel like you should suffer because of their mistakes. only yours.

Outdated take that's just not true in today's world where everyone's a victim and wants something for nothing. A more accurate take would be "there's two sides to every story with the truth usually lying somewhere in between."

We've bought several cars from David Waters at Price LeBlanc Lexus. He's been honest with us & is low key. It's across Airline from Woman's Hospital.
