Sounds like a lack of airflow through your condenser at idle
I had this exact problem and that is what it was. The mechanic told me that is what he thought it would be. I took the car home and sure enough the electric fans were not working. A lot of times car electric motors get a little corrosion and stop working. I gave a few taps on the electric motor with a hammer and they started right up and the AC started to work at idle. Probably saved me a small bundle.

I would think it's a fan clutch

Shop quoted me $800 to fix. I ordered on Amazon with overnight shipping for ~$150 and replaced in 45 minutes.
All hail YouTube and amazon.
My security company quoted me a new camera system for $1k. Amazon has that shite for $400.

Check coolant/antifreeze level.

Electric fan or electric fan relay. Typically very easy to fix yourself. Watch a video on YouTube, fix it, ???, Profit.

Water pump bad or blockage in lines preventing coolant from circulating in engine?
That would only matter to the heat. The AC is separate and uses freon.

This is the answer with almost 100% certainty.

Since we are throwing out answers here, I'm going to go with a faulty thermostat. Air blowing across your engine helps to cool it when in motion, which explains the temp increase when you are idle.
Just as easily can be a fan issue or a water pump issue.
The A/c doesn't stop working when you are idle, you are just feeling the effects of the higher vehicle temp.

I had the same problem on A Ford 500..... Solution was to trade it in.

Going to give another idea...
I had that problem and found that computer shut it off because my RPM at idle was too low. I cleaned the throttle body and that fixed the RPM issue... AC worked at idle after that.
You should verify your idle RPM is where it should be.

Your LSU superfan neighbor could cool you down with his hose.

Sounds like a simple AC problem. One day I got in my car and fan was blowing full blast without car being cranked. Only was to make it stop was disconnecting the battery or removing the fuse

Yeah but he mentions temp of engine, so I thought he was having engine temp go up and down as well?

All you need is to add coolant

AC electric condensor fan. Just changed my own on my Dodge Ram. $50 new off Ebay. Did the work in about 45 minutes. AC was hot while idling, but would get colder with increased speed (not RPM) due to natural airflow across the condensor. The compressor kept tripping on high temp when there wasn't enough airflow.

I only know about the coolant because this exact thing happened to me
