re: How much does it cost to get rid of an in ground swimming pool?
Posted by deanwelles on 9/25/23 at 1:02 pm to East Coast Band
Bump to an old thread. Looking at buying a house with a pool that we really don't want (the pool, not the house). Before everyone says keep it, I want a yard for my 1 and 3 year olds and we have a membership to a pool.
Seems like the cost is fairly low, maybe 2-4k (or DIY, i have operated equipment before), but in Baton Rouge does anyone know if you need a permit to do this? Pool is concrete FWIW.
ETA thought this was on H&G board, not OT.

It sounds like your 4 runner just sits in the driveway most of the time. I'd put my wife and kids in the low mileage 4runner and let the explorer sit in the driveway. And keep the 25. Just me though

A mostly peaceful armed robbery.
Also hope they had insurance.

I'm busy getting both kids in their car seats everywhere we go. Least she can do is get her own door and wait patiently

I'm so jealous of the LSU people in Omaha right now especially if LSU wins the NC. Imagine the party there if the tigers win it all. Money well spent if you ask me. The Memories will outweigh the money especially if you did it with friends/family. ?
My boys are still too young to take to something like that right now, but hopefully I'll get a chance to take them in the next ten years. Sounds like a great trip
re: What are some memories from your young vacations to Grand Isle and other Louisiana areas?
Posted by deanwelles on 5/29/23 at 9:30 pm to Methuselah
I started going down there around since 1991 or so. I was about 5. My grand parents bought our camp and at the time it had no roof, windows, finished floors, or walls. Plumbing and electrical were incomplete. My grandfather, uncle, and dad finished it out. It was an old Exxon camp. I was down there this weekend. When I think back about what GI used to be like, it's almost unbelievable how much it's changed in the past 30 years, although somethings never change, because my dad and I are still working on that place.
As for old memories:
The fishing is not nearly as good. A lot more people, a lot less habitat equals a lot less trout. Caught limits on the regular as a kid. Admittedly, I don't get to fish as much now, but it's been a while since I've caught a limit.
Trash, rusted out cars, falling apart buildings. Everywhere. The beach looked like a city dump. There would be everything you could imagine on that beach. Dead animals (not just fish), furniture and structures, all sorts of garbage and debris.
It's not there anymore, but a building my younger brother used to call "the upside down camp" because the building was on the ground and it had pilings sticking up out of it.
No water pressure on holiday weekends.
Everyone claiming to have encountered Whitey Bulger.
The power going out randomly and Cigars being the only place to eat.
There were puddles/mud holes that seemed to never dry, ever. Mosquitos the size of seagulls. I don't recall a single paved road other than LA1 when I was kid. I really think everything was gravel or dirt.

I re read his version of the story and it sounded like the suspect vehicle was headed two directions on Jefferson
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but sounds like two different directions for the "getaway vehicle". IDK maybe I'm just not picturing it correctly

Nope.. Jefferson Hwy eastbound. right after the light at Drusilla. For some reason traffic had stopped prior to the interstate on-ramp.

Debit card and credit card numbers keep getting stolen
Posted by deanwelles on 10/20/22 at 3:48 pm
My wife's (no pics) capital one debit card number has been used fraudulently 3 different times this year. The most recent time was yesterday morning. Then today, I notice fraudulent charges on my capital one credit card. Both stored in Amazon and our online banking. Other than that, no common use I can think of. Any ideas of how this could keep happening?
We're not loaning our cards out or anything like that. Seems like more than a coincidence this most recent time.

That's beating the hell out of the prices I'm getting. I've only gotten two people to come out. If you're in BR would you be willing to share your electrician's name/number?

I've been gathering quotes to get mine upgraded, not for generator hookup, but because I'm wanting to change my service from overhead to underground. If I may ask, what did the panel upgrade cost?
re: Master plumber question

I'm pretty confident all they would use it for is hand washing, but the infants would consume bottles in this room so I'm trying to figure out if that complicates the use of the sink, at least in the eyes of LDH
