I still don't think its going to be renovated. I think this is purely a PR move by the owners to both the City and their insurance company.

IDK. If they can make the top floors residential, convert the bottom floor into convention space and restaurants, get a hotel in the bottom 12 floors, and get a decent restaurant in the lobby or on the top level......Lake Charles can probably support that.

$139 million to retrofit. Not sure you could build a building like I described above from scratch for that in 2022. Bonus points if the city or a local company commits to occupying 2-3 floors for offices.

Drove by it on my way to Houston a coupe months ago. They might as well put a bomb in the building and finish the job the hurricane started

If they can get that building fixed up, and some of the lakefront developments that have been proposed actually come on line. Lake Charles is going to look pretty nice.

Especially if they get a new bridge inside of 10-15 years.

Absolutely. If only Lake Charles could get as long of a hurricane break as Lafayette has had.

Crying Eagle has already broken ground. The lakefront is actually going to be pretty nice fairly soon. Well at least one side will. The side opposite on I10 still has that shitty motel and sex toy store I think. Steamboat bills is back, though.

God bless them they seem to be trying, but they have a long long way to go to make that area nice.

the Hibernia Bank building suffered major damage in 2005 during Rita. 15 years later (Cap One Tower) the same type of damages occurred from back-to-back Laura and Delta in 2020.

To prevent the same damages from happening again, the building needs to have 200+ mph "Hurricane proof" windows installed. Anything less and we're re-hashing this same topic

It’s just missing glass, the steel structure of the building which is the most expensive to build is still usable.

Anything they build nice will be destroyed or will not be kept up with like everything else there. That place is an insanely sad place to visit now.

I honestly don't understand how you can reside there and not be severely depressed.

They had two major hurricanes in one year. They are allowed a to not look their best today.

Some recent reopening do have it feeling a little like the old LC. Really nice to have Pronias back, and I may check out Panorama's reopening party tonight.

its not now but even if it was how in the frick does that lead to this:

i mean wtf are you basing this on? what needs to be leveled? i mean do we need to suddenly stop the investment around the lake according to you?

really the only 2 buildings really left to be rebuilt is where GiGis was and the tower.

the others have been rebuilt or in process and 1 was demoed.

Idk about before the storm but I can tell you for sure that the isle was contacted after and the damage was one reason along with that they didn’t want to move to LC city limits
