Think of it two ways, there are lots of good old baws out there that never attended LSU but love the school and football.

Then you have the academics that went to LSU, care about the potential academic influences he brings, and also love the football team and sports.

How do you destroy/unite them both with one swoop? Go after the symbols that unite them both.

I really hope he doesn't but he could easily demoralize the LSU populous by getting rid of Mike and other Civil War era connections.

Counterpoint: an attack on symbols can create an "immune response" that might otherwise be compromised if whittled away piece by piece. Boldness from these fricks can work in our favor.

I’m sick and tired of people getting jobs and promotions strictly based on race. Disgraceful.

Tate is an interesting choice Tate's CV is fairly good considering he didn't attend an elite undergraduate university, as many other career bureaucrats at the administrator level, and he was at Wash U for a long time, which is an utterly fantastic university, as the Dean of the Graduate School for six years, and a professor for another 18 or so. That is an extremely impressive resume line.

I'll read his papers on mathematics pedagogy when I have time, but there has been a recent trend in numerous fields, from psychology to pedagogy to economics, in which people have pointed out the US's relative test scores vs. other countries once we get to high school drop significantly, and that drop can't be explained by intelligence alone, as American children do score well against other countries up until high school. The argument gets more complicated on the root causes, but alas, this board isn't the place for that discussion. I do wonder where his mathematics pedagogy research takes him on that question.

A cursory glance of his published papers shows he somewhat dismisses a push for higher test results because he feels it causes too many minorities to drop out of high school. Like many who complain about racial disparities, he seems to think that we shouldn’t focus on what those that are excelling are doing, and should instead focus on how we can help those failing at least pass and graduate.

Yeah I would disagree with such a suggestion, if that representation is accurate. Mathematics education should be more rigorous, and the coursework from places with the same level of achievement as the US in reading and higher in math suggest that teaching math as a skill to be reinforced and learned rather than a notion that understanding it is innate, and there is nothing to be done about it.
