Cancelling travel plans to visit family for Thanksgiving

My parents (60 yrs old) miss me but they’re completely indoctrinated in syndicate news fearporn.
They miss me and we’re excited to see my for the 1st time in 6 months but they’re too afraid I’ll bring the flu, since I live in a red state that’s spiking in cases.
I talked about getting a test before I head out but I flat out asked would they feel uncomfortable if I flew in and they said they’d never stop me from coming but yes they would. At that point, it made no sense for me to fly 1800 miles and have to walk on eggshells.

Your parents are weak and should be alone. Send them a video of you having a large gathering at Thanksgiving.

Ask you husband what you should do.

My dad would literally whoop my arse if I told him I wasn’t coming to see him. We still fish and do everything together. And he is older than your parents
Amazing how many people have completely stopped loving and enjoying life in fear of death . Really makes no fricking sense

I'm cancelling plans too.
My parents are in their 80's and my dad has a rare blood disorder. I have no problems visiting young, healthy people, but I'm not going to chance it with my parents. It sucks, but I'd feel terrible if either one of them got sick.
I'll be having a Friendsgiving instead.

Hire a couple random lonely old folks who want to live life to be your parents for the weekend.
Problem solved.
Oh....be sure to post plenty of pics from your dinner on FB.

First your brother, and now your parents.
Your family has a history of cowardice.

Use COVID-19 excuse to stay away from shitty family members?

my in laws will not travel.
they are in their 70's, but refuse to go anywhere, even if we promised to keep a distance and mask up.
I visited my 89 year old mother a week ago.

Sucks to be brainwashed. My mom is 65 and not worried one bit about me coming in. Said she would rather see her son and take that very small covid risk.

We're doing a virtual get-together. My parents are in their 70s and have a ton of health issues. It's not worth the risk.
I'm not saying EVERYONE should do this, but it's a personal choice for us.

Just keep that in mind for everything saying “we will do it again next year”
Next year isn’t promised, especially in your case

The OT: the high risk should quarantine themselves so we can get back to normal life
Also the OT: your 60+ parents don't want to meet face to face? BAHHHHH! BAHHHHH! SHEEP! I BET THEY WATCH CNN!

I’m truly sorry. I’ll see my parents and siblings. Mom is the one who wants to — dad could be nervous but won’t say much either way.

Your dad is gonna be stuffing your mom’s turkey right there on the dining table with no one there

Everyone is free to make their own choices for thanksgiving, I guess I just don’t get the logic
The fear of the extreme rare chance asymptomatically giving covid to someone and then then having the extreme rare chance of death, is enough to keep people away
But the chance of purposefully not seeing family for what could be their last holiday (might not be that small a chance either if parents are older) doesn’t strike fear
Just don’t get it personally

My parents would rather be dead anyway if I didn’t come for thanksgiving.
This isn’t exactly “living” for most Americans to start with

And you're absolutely right. I talk to him every week and would really love to see them.
I work in the medical field though, in Dallas, where cases are rising. They're in New Orleans and I just don't feel comfortable possibly exposing them to something that could kill them. I'll revisit my decision for Christmas.
Other than immune compromised and the elderly though, I see no reason for people to not celebrate as usual.
