A friend of mine got so pissed after dealing with one of their customer service reps he started calling when he was drinking and trolling them.

He said they hung up on him the last time he called demanding that they remove BET from his TV guide and available programing.

all you can do is complain to the FCC and your Attorney General Consumer Division. If you can find other customers who were treated similarly try to doc the date/time of day and length of hold time.

build a record then sic the govt on them... pattern and practice is first step to establish

I messaged them on Facebook asking about a loyal customer discount, when calling to negotiate didn't work. They messaged me back within 30 minutes, saying they do have discounts for loyal customers. It took a little while before they actually called me, but I ended up keeping everything I had and my bill was about $25 dollars less a month. They had just raised my monthly bill and I got locked in until March of next year without agreeing to a over the phone contract. It saved me at least $300. I not completely happy with the price, but I am waiting to see about SEC network and see what happens. Just a temporary fix.

cut-the-cord heat after so much time being the only option

Every time someone cuts the cord, the channels themselves lose a subscriber.

At some point, you would think the media companies would wise up to this, and start offering the channels online, direct pay to the consumer, and cut out the middle man cable companies.

I pay DirecTv just over 100 bucks a month. Not counting the free over the air channels, I and my family generally watch Disney, Disney Jr, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, NFL Network, FOX Sports New Orleans/Southwest, A&E, History Channel, and Bravo. That's it 99 percent of the time.

I would gladly pay the Disney Co $20 a month for a Disney/ESPN package, and buy the indiviual other channels for $2-$3/month. They would make more off of me than they do currently via DirecTV.

I can understand why cable companies don't want a la carte pricing. But with online streaming, those days can be bypassed.

Everybody always says that when they call they get all these crazy discounts thrown at them to stay. Well I called Cox and said I wanted to cancel unless I could get a reduced rate, they told me I could drop off my box at the Florida Blvd office. So I said F it and cut the cord, those cheap bastards.

Now with Sports package...$22 a month.

$22 and you're complaining? I would cut off my left nut if I could get cable at that price.

But then they always end up voiding whatever you agreed to without notice prior to the agreed upon term. And the notes from your call where you negotiated a better price for a year always magically disappear.

Thats exactly what they did to me. I negotiated a price reduction that was supposed to be good for 12 months. 3 months into it, my rate went up and was just $8 lower than it was originally. I called for an explanation and they said they had a rate increase but that I was still getting a discounted rate. I told them we agreed on a price and if they weren't going to honor it, than to just cancel my service. They didn't budge and a week or so later, I was with Uvers.

Slightly offtopic: Anyone have any luck with canceling DirectTV before their contract was up?

Cox cable, DMV, post office, SS office, Burger King, ...I hear all of these places have shitty customer service. Has to be a common denominator here. hmmmm

Can you cancel online?

I canceled my cable and transferred my internet to a new location just a few weeks ago. I got an e-mail confirming and it came with a phone number that led me specifically to the right person.

I haven't had an issue with Cox yet, but I've heard horror stories so be careful. When you turn in your equipment, make sure to get a receipt and make sure it has EVERY device you turned in listed. Remote.. cable box.. etc.

If I call their main number, I sit around forever too.

I have an app on my phone called Fast Customer that generally takes me through the automated menu and then skips the line when I call companies. I don't know if they work for Cox but they might. I worked for Entergy this morning. I got through after 1 minute.

I showed up at the main office on Florida and Lobdell in the Bon Marche shopping center to turn in my equipment.

Walked in (after 3 cocktails at lunch), saw 40 trashballs standing around, and left.

Called the little LSU kiosk location and they said I can turn in equipment there.
I'd recommend going there. You could probably even cancel there if you wanted to.

nope. Smart on their part because by making the customers call to cancel they are able to retain a percentage of the people.

Actually, now that you say that, that's why I had to call them. I requested a transfer of services from my old home to my new home (internet and cable)... which you can do online.

But I only wanted to transfer the internet and I wanted to cancel the cable, so when they e-mailed me a confirmation for my service transfer, I called the number listed and said I only want internet transferred.

The canceling threats might have worked for some people, but I called with no interest in it and they didn't even attempt. I said I only want internet and they said okay. Canceled the cable right then and there. Didn't even tell me I needed to return the equipment (I just knew I did).

CR: You only get 10 days to return equipment. They likely won't tell you that.

Like I said, visit the LSU kiosk if you can.

Cox also has an office in Denham Springs that I went to 3-4 times and no customers were ever in there.

I pay $67 at the apartment. I'd have to go down to about $30 with HBO. Ain't gonna happen.

You make 6 figures, drive a 65k car and yet you won't pay more than $30 for TV each month?
