Wow...appears I struck a nerve by actually suggesting that "cancel culture", currently a purely binary practice, should be infused with nuance. I can't even agree with y'all without getting shite on, but I'm the fricking closed-minded prick? frick outta here...
My view of Tom Cotton's op-ed seems to have really pissed y'all off. As a veteran myself, I found it reprehensible for Cotton to suggest deploying active duty troops to dissuade what were overwhelmingly peaceful protests with some looters and rioting mixed in. I take great comfort in knowing that 4 former joint chiefs of staff agreed with me that Cotton and Trump's call to prematurely call out active duty military was both reprehensible and irresponsible.
Have y'all read any of the comments from the National Guard folks who were deployed to DC and were part of clearing Lafayette Square for a photo-op? You might want to. The military knows its responsibility is to uphold the constitution, not serve as hired henchmen for those who seek to abuse the powers of their offices. The NYT choosing to serve as a megaphone for that abuse was a choice worthy of termination.

Yes, so-called "cancel culture" is the product of a cataclysmic intersection between pompous self-righteousness and reactionary ignorance. It is deeply depressing.

Your outrage seems to be influenced by your lack historical knowledge or your inability to use google. Maybe they should've taught you that in the Coast Guard reserves

"I hate cancel culture, but we need to use it when I arbitrarily decide it's appropriate because I'm the supreme moral arbiter"

It only ends when enough Leftists are suffering because of it.
It is a uniquely LEFT phenomenon and as long as they are benefitting from it, it will never end.

Feel free to take up the negotiations with your folks
I'm sure they'll welcome the introduction of nuance and reason into their ideology.

We have a former Disney Channel Star going after underage kids for stuff they've posted. Doxxing all of them in hopes of getting them fired or removed from school.
When wealthy, elitist hollywood people start checking the "privilege" of regular working people without consequence, society is fricked. That chick called out some incredibly racist posts - but some of them were made years ago by high school kids that may have been in a family environment where racism was normal. And I'm very disturbed with forcing people to answer for incredibly stupid things they did as a child.
Then she started trying to get normal people fired or expelled for supporting political candidates she didn't like. I believe twitter temporarily suspended her. She was basically stalking and watching over kids in flyover states for comments that she can use to ruin their lives.
Given that the new "cancel culture" strategy is designed to ruin people who don't follow far left ideals of morality, I've scaled back my social media presence in a big way. It's impossible to know what benign comment or joke that was posted, "liked" or retweeted in the past 15 years could make you a target.

They have no problem ruining the lives of a perfect stranger in the most vile way possible but will post on social media how the world just needs love and they square that in their minds without thinking twice.
If this hasn't caused some people to rethink their social media presence....not sure what will.

You are so incredibly stupid that it hurts MY head....
To try and correlate the two is a display of ignorance rarely seen in life.
Congrats on being dumber than a box of rocks AND having the guts to let the world know.
