Yes, you can shoot them. Just be sure to drag them into your house before you call the police. That advice is what a former EBR Parish District Attorney told me when I asked him about shooting intruders. No kidding.

Kind of on topic, I knew an old lady who shot a guy trying to open one of the windows in her house. He fell backwards into her garden. The cops showed up, opened the window, and placed him hanging halfway into her home. Case closed.

Wrong.

You can use deadly force to protect your property in Texas.

Would I get charged if I shot a gun in the air to scare the fuk out of them ? Serious question.

Pretty sure not unless you’re in either your car or home and your life is danger.

replacing your vehicle is cheaper than your legal defense, even if you get off. not worth the headache. just stay inside and call the cops.

This is, unfortunately, the pragmatic answer that is probably most correct. Even if you're justified, you're going to pay. Don't shoot unless you have to. Even if you believe it to be the correct thing to do and can convince a jury that you're correct, it's going to cost you everything you've spent a life working for to defend yourself from that thief's family. Even then, you might lose the civil case and have to pay them off every paycheck for the rest of your life.

God, I hate a thief. Hammurabi got some things right.

If you have a gun in your car, it gets murky but probably get away with it.

The bigger question is, why would you shoot someone who's breaking into your car? Take a pic and go to the police.

People who keep their cars in the driveway are trashy.

several very knowledgeable people here have told you no...
if you chose to do so you better have a cell phone in one hand recording and the gun in the other hand to prove fear for your life...

even so you may get off criminally but have a civil case against you...

so do you want to pay a couple of hundred on the deductible or pay thousands for a lawyer...

Depends. Do you live in a city where it is illegal to fire a weapon in?

If there are local ordinances against firing a weapon technically you could be charged with that.

If you don’t suck at shooting, and therefore there are no witnesses....then yes. Every single time. Because you had legitimate fear for your life...........

Right?

Theres a the legal concept of "proportionality." Your response to the threat has to be proportionate.

If there is castle doctrine law in your state, that may protect you from prosecution if you cap a home invader, but shooting someone breaking into a unoccupied car may be another mater.

Just shoot to kill. Dead men tell no tales, and he was acting in a threatening and aggressive manner.

The forensic investigators for the BRPD and EBR DA’s office are more than capable of figuring out the location where someone was actually shot, the DA that told you that was likely joking.

Do you have a gun? If not First procure a gun
Then commence to shooting them.
Is your question 1 is it legal to shoot someone breaking into your car? Or 2 can I shoot someone breaking in to your car?
2 is obvious yes you can you can shoot them and anyone walking down the street for that matter now is it legal? Hell if I know. 1 ask a lawyer
