Do you have a TWIC card? That can be used in place of Real ID or passport in the states.

Just got back from a trip with my wife who traveled with only a photo of her Drivers License.
You have to go through additional screening. Took her about an hour on the way out and about 20 minutes on the way back.

. Everybody always forgets the right to fly is ingrained in the Constitution. If I recall the American Colonist were forbidden to fly from Boston to London Heathrow Airport and back.

The wife and I got ours while we were there. We were in and out in about an hour. And most of that was just waiting for our turn to be called. Process only takes about 10 minutes. They printed our new Real ID cards there.

I am a fellow dumb arse currently in your exact situation. I brought an expired (emergency in the car id, long story) non real id to the airport on accident. You will get past the little insert id booth and then have to do a pat down in leiu of the x ray thing. Thats it. I nearly had a heart attack when I realized what I did, easy to call someone an idiot and then do something stupid yourself ha

i got mine at the Express DMV at 4:30 after the DMV told me at 4 that I needed an appointment. Use the DMV online tool for what you need to bring. Print it out as “proof” for them. I think it’s $75 vs $35 or $40 at DMV.
Friend recently flew and didn’t have RealID and they just swabbed his hands and some other extra screening. I would just get it done so you don’t have to worry with it.

Yes, ticket agents will mark your boarding pass and TSA will go through your carry on.

I used mine recently and they used a magnifying glass to verify the security measures in the card. At least, that’s what they told me when I asked. I’ve read that they don’t scan them. Don’t know how true that is.
