Here’s one way to predict your heart health: get down and give me 41. A new study finds that men who can perform at least 40 push-ups in one attempt are much less likely to suffer from heart disease within the next 10 years.

Researchers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public health say their report is the first to show how push-up capacity is linked to heart disease. They found that middle-aged men who can log more than 40 push-ups in a single try have a 96% reduced risk of developing the potentially deadly condition and other related ailments, such as heart failure, compared to those who can complete no more than 10 push-ups.

Ehhh

Distance you can run without resting is probably a better indicator of overall cardiovascular health

Some people’s upper bodies are just weak AF

Nope. My right wrist is so fricked up I can barely get into push-up position without my hand being on fire

40 is and should be easy for anyone under 40 years of age. I do 25 most mornings just to help wake up and get the blood flowing.

Doubtful.

I'm 57.In my 30's I did "Dips",could climb a rope.

I'm 40 lbs heavier now,so lifting my own weight is a little tougher.

If you can’t you need to make some big time life changes. That’s low to be some sort of barometer

ETA: assuming you aren’t past middle age or have some performance hindering disease

I think a good test for fitness level is 15 pull-ups, 15 dips, 25 pushups, and 10 pistol squats (5 on each leg) in under 2 minutes.
