Oh, I'm an avid exerciser. Have been an athlete all my life. I've simply done nothing for 13 months. Could have continued with more, by the way. Just wanted to see if I could better the arbitrary number of the OP.

I mean to say, I'm normal (not a freak of nature).

I just turned 40. I do 45-60 push-ups 3-5 days a week (at one time). This is about the only “workout” I get to do having young kids and what not. I’ll do dips on occasion too. When you get to my age you’re only working out to keep as good a quality of life as you can. You really only need a few simple exercises to keep in good shape provided you do them every day.

According to that chart i can do almost that as well. I highly doubt I’m in that top percentage range. I haven’t worked out since November because of an injury and the holidays but can still do it. I was top 1% when I worked out but again i would not say that except for the chart.

So if I work out, I'll be healthier? Thanks, new study.

exactly. There must be a shite ton of really poor in shape people to skew it so low.

off topic, but since there are so many push-up experts here, I reinjured my back a couple months ago and just recently felt ok to work out. I usually do push ups off these 3" high handles, but left them at a hotel, so I did them off kettle bells, which are about 8" high, after 3 months of no push-ups. I went a good bit deeper than usual on every push-up. Two weeks later, my right pec is still sore. Is that an unhealthy motion, or just something I should have worked up to?

Push-up stands give you increased height which allows you far greater range of motion so you probably weren’t prepared for it. Push-up stands do give your wrist a break but they allow you to go deeper.

But there's never been such a collection of prolific push-up doers in one thread. Ever.

I use them because I broke my right wrist pretty badly and it's more comfortable to do pushups with the wrist straight. The kettle bells were just too tall because I still went all the way down.

Yeah you weren’t prepared for that kind of range of motion

Pushups are more about conditioning your body to the repetition of pushups then strength. Go to any US Army unit and every single Soldier can do >40 pushups and they are in no way considered “in shape.”

ETA: male Soldiers. Female standard is a joke.

Hell ya. I start every work out with 10 pull ups, 10 chin ups, and 100 push ups.

I lift 2-3 days a week, have for five years consistently and walk 30 miles a month. Did over 300 miles last year with my dog, myfitnesspal says so. semi swole

I doubt I could do 10 push ups

I'll try tomorrow morning and report back

I'm 41 and in reasonably decent shape. I don't think that I could do 40. Probably 20-25 though.
