I can do 1/2 a rep of my weight. The 1/2 that involves the bar crashing into my chest.

Most grown men have like >20% bodyfat and don’t exercise. Pretty easy to understand.

exactly....less than 10% of the population in the US does any form of regular resistance training. That 10% includes those that do calisthenics, women who do "body pump" classes etc

so yea....pretty sure most people can not.

now those that lift regularly & conssitstently....pretty common.

for the PPSA crew....pretty much an absolute

If you define success as being advanced and towards the top percentile, you are going to go through a lot of failure.

Im not saying 1.5x is some amazing lift, it's not, but for your average dude in the gym a couple times a week, that's going to be pretty hard to achieve.

I, of course, am at at least 1.6x BW right now, but I only bench once a week.

1.5x bodyweight on bench press is a very high end intermediate, getting close to advanced bench press.
Doesnt that kinda meet the definition of “success”?

Success shouldn’t be barely being above not very weak

At 200 lbs, a 312 lb max bench press would make you an advanced lifter at that exercise.

Retard

Yeah I’m just saying that his perception might be skewed toward subjective goals and not society on average

No im 6'2 and ~50lb too fat to even be "not fat" much less shredded, so the cards are stacked against me for now

Max bench is ~205.. think my next workout program is going to be working towards hitting 225.

And they almost certainly still can't bench 315 for reps

In my 30s, I could. At 41, probably not. My exercise nowadays is pickle ball and biking around neighborhood.

So let's just concede they are an advance lifter and can bench press 315 (which is wrong but whatever). You are contending they can do multiple sets and reps at 95%+ of their max?

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve liked holding onto certain fitness milestones to ensure I’m not slacking off. The ones I try to hit every year:

-Bench body weight
-Do same number of unbroken burpees as years old
-Do a third as many unbroken pull-ups as years old (this one I’ll have to drop to a quarter soon as will be tough once I hit 40+)
-Do half as many unbroken push-ups as years old

This seems really low, I would have thought this number would be higher. Are they counting kids?

not any more.
right shoulder is pretty much done.

had a surgery, but did very little to help pain, range of motion, or strength.

at somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 extension, my strength is almost non existent now.
