Can we have a conversation as to why Baton Rouge is such a dangerous place to drive?

Stupidity and aggressiveness make a bad cocktail. Many people here have a raging sense of entitlement and huge chips on their shoulders. This is the only place I've ever driven where people are so quick to want to fight you for even the slightest mishap.

Because the DMV/DPS/Baton Rouge local government is as incompetent and corrupt as the rest of the government in this state and is a direct reflection of the incompetence and corruption of the people in this state that continually choose this kind of government and refuse to challenge it or change it.

It's the same answer for any question along the lines of "Why does Louisiana suck?".

Because you have people here who want to tailgate you no matter how fast you're going because you're never going fast enough for them. You could be in the flow of traffic going 85, and some numbnuts is gonna be 3 inches from your bumper and zoom past you going 100 while giving you a dirty look (as though you are going 45). This is driver A.

Then, there's driver B. He has nothing better to do, nowhere to really go, and no time limit to get there. In fact, he's not even interested in driving really. At every stop light, he is on his phone. The light is inconvenient to him, so he surfs while stopped. When he's driving, he's driving 15 mph under the speed limit while dancing in the car and looking at girls passing by. He has no care what lane he's in, and even better if he can create a travelling road block with a car next to him. He'll be damned if you're gonna pass him. If he senses you're trying to do the right thing and pass him, he'll slow down even more just to be a dick.

Those two types of drivers dominate our roadways here, and it creates a driving environment prone to accidents. Other places, most drivers get on the road and want to get somewhere, but go the flow of traffic. Not our drivers. They are either type A or type B.

One factor that few people likely think about is just how damn much it rains here. Baton Rouge is one of the wettest cities in America, and wet streets mean more accidents. Every time it rains, the interstates turn into the demolition derby.

Was in the car early in the morning a few weeks ago with the family on the way to vacation. We were driving through Slidell on I-10 in the middle of a serious front with driving heavy rain and 30 mph wind. It was dark outside and the paint on the interstate was faded with no lights so you couldn't see dick outside. The safest thing you could do was slow down and drive a little slower than normal. There were still these fricking idiots going 90+. Sure enough, one zooms past me and I start seeing lights going every fricking where. The dumbass is doing a 360 in the interstate up ahead of me because I guess he thinks driving 90 mph on an interstate with sheets of water on it is a smart idea.

Perhaps, but no place gets rain like the state of Washington does, and they aren’t listed. I’d imagine rain does play a part, but perhaps it’s the other factors simply being exacerbated due to rain. IOW, the effects of piss poor driving is made worse by the rain, but if it weren’t for the driving problem, it wouldn’t be as bad in wet conditions.
