Austin is completely overrated, but it's still a good place. If you don't get shitty advice, which the OP clearly did it can be a lot of fun.
Now if you don't like people who don't dress, act, or look like you, then yea you may have a problem.

Hell, One my Ex's is there too. I was there briefly 20 years ago and it was pretty cool, I thought. Went back a few years ago and W. t. f....?!? Was the invasion of radical left-coast liberals a planned event ? There's still good places and good food there, but it's becoming the 'minority'.
I guess even Texas gets a few snowflakes, whether they need 'em or not.....

I sure remember dancing with some cowgirls back in the 1990’s at the Broken Spoke in Austin. We had friends that lived 30 minutes outside Austin in Dripping Springs but now when you drive to Dripping Springs is just a suburb and it’s city all the way there. Town has grown so much since then it’s hard to even recognize.
I sure loved it back then but I know it’s changed and not my kind of place but I think it still has to be way better than freaking Baton Rouge.

Sounds like a liberal utopia. No thanks.

Lmfao...Baton Rouge is a fricking shithole. Austin is way better than any city in Louisiana

Let’s see:
- No crime
- No blight
- Everything is new and clean
- You can (and everyone does) send your kids to public school, even downtown
- HEB grocery stores
- High-paying jobs a-plenty
- Tons of great restaurants
- Attractive young women moving in in droves
- A plethora of outdoor activities within the city limits
But yep, because you may occasionally see a stupid man-bun guy in a Hawaiian shirt with an ironic mustache, it’s definitely worse than Baton Rouge.

You sound incredibly insecure with your manhood if you’re so sensitive with how other men dress. With how you come across, The Domain actually seems right up your alley. It’s family friendly during the day and can get douchey at night if that’s what you’re looking for.
It looks like you’ve finally found some things to do outside the city limits and outdoor that should better your experience. Relax dude and you’ll have a much better time. It’s an overrated city but if you can’t have fun here, then it’s you with the problem. It’s a diverse city with something for everyone.

It has a couple of nice lakes with nice views.
That is about it as far as being "special" or having anything to set it apart in any way.
Decent restaurants and a decent bar scene, 6th street and what not.
But ever decent size city in the United States (like literally about 50 cities or more) has food and places to get drunk in a nice setting.
It isnt special like a San Fran, Miami, LA or something with beaches and lots of beautiful women. Or like a Vegas or New York with endless entertainment options day or night. Or a Denver with the mountains and healthy culture (and pot).
Austin is an ok medium size US city with a couple of nice lakes. "Special" is not Austin.
Ftr, I've spent about 4 weeks there in total. 2 weeks at one time then some trips for a few days at a time. Work related and female related.

Ya I'd agree it isn't special from a location/vibe standpoint. It isn't New Orleans and those places you listed, but it isn't totally bland either.
I guess what's "special" about it is being one of the largest cities in the country that's actually safe with good schools. Usually you have to either move to the suburbs and give up the amenities or deal with crime and send your kids to private school to have them.
City has over a million people and averages 30 something murders a year. I just can't believe how low that is
So Low on Murderin' around here

Yeah, it's a better than average place to live IMO, agree with that.

Go eat at the Oasis. You can sit outside overlooking the lake.

There is no way some of you have seen all of Austin metro. No way.

Is that directed at me? I live here
To me it ranks lower than the cities everyone thinks about as being "special" on the culture/vibe front, but above most of the rest of typical American cities. I think that's a fair assessment.
Where it shines is being a livable city without all the BS you usually have to deal with.
I'm really curious what it's going to look like when it gets close to being a top 20 metro as predicted.
