Maybe I am. Went to Kemuri Tatsu-ya and mingled with dozens of people outside while waiting for a table, and the Domain was mentioned multiple times. I inquired about Sixth St., because when I came 15 or so years ago that was the hot spot, but they all said, “No, all the trashy people go there”

True - but I’m here with my gf

Not a bumpkin, and I’m not from BR - been all over the country and no city has irked me quite as much as Austin. Never have I heard so much hype about a city and been so let down by the real thing. I’ll stick to South Beach and Vegas and New Orleans.

Austin is basically Portland or Seattle in the middle of Texas. What were you expecting?

Rainey street & outdoor activities.

Sounds like you missed the two best things.

Apparently too much.

Welp, guess I won’t be going to Portland or Seattle anytime soon.

You really want to know is what’s so great? Put your political beliefs aside and try to enjoy a city that has very good outdoors things to do literally in the city limits, such as swimming holes, hiking, rock climbing. The city itself is also very clean. The food is very good overall. Sure there are some overrated places, which seems to be what you fell for. The same can be said for BR and most cities.

Honestly Californians have sort of ruined it for everyone else by pushing the housing costs to their insane levels. 10 years ago was the time to move to Austin. But visiting is just fine. I’d recommend going out on lake Travis or Lake Austin and just enjoy yourself

Austin has big city things but still maintains that small town vibe. And it has a lot of natural beauty.

I’m with you on that one.
As somebody who has never lived outside of San Antonio, I wish I lived in Austin.
If you go again, try one of the lakes and spend some more time around west Austin and you won’t run into the figs you saw this past time.

Political beliefs? I couldn’t give two shits about politics. Two topics I couldn’t care less about are politics and religion. You’re barking up the wrong tree baw

I guess I meant just ignore the damn hipsters. If you can do that you will have a good time. You seem to obsessed with them.

Yeah, that’s laughable. There were literally commissions in BR trying to figure out how to be more like Austin.

Austin is mostly hype. They have some good taco places, but so does every city south of there.

If you have a tech job and like to pay out the arse for your studio apartment, it’s great. Throw in the ability to sip on a micro brew (it must be great because it’s local!) and hear a band trying to make a name, and it’s complete.

Yeah, it’s SF or Seattle in the middle of Texas. It’s amazing how much that place has changed over time.
