Online is great till you have a problem. Good luck when the valve is leaking or or the pipe isn’t to spec. You can’t go online and get that shite resolved.
And I doubt you’re gonna buy a $30K rotary screw compressor for your machine shop without a live person to assess what’s needed.

OP must be a fourteen year old retard to have such a limited view of sales and it’s role in the business world.

You just don't have the mental capacity to grasp what I was saying

Yep, these people are common in the business. I have the drive, but I can’t stand the pressure of the OR. Now I’m in a different industry where I can work that hard and not have the same level of pressure on that end. A good medical device rep is hard to find, because it’s more than the average rep signed up for. Hunting for policies though on a nationwide basis, I think I found my calling. Definitely wasn’t built for the OR, but was built for sales. The OP doesn’t know what a salesman actually does.

OP - I hope you aren’t in any leadership position.

Sales Reps are profit centers. If they aren't, they’re fired.

The sales professional is well paid to convince the prospective client to purchase your product/service rather than your competitors

Correct, I work in a profession that requires more than bolt ons

For as much as you understand technology you obviously think everyone just understands it. For a lot of companies their salesperson is more of a business partner than just a bother that makes money off of them. The perfect example is big trucks, they are not something that you can just google and find the right fit for your company. Each manufacturer has dozens of pages of specifications that each have 10-25 options to chose from. You have to be able to understand how that unit works as a whole and then figure out how to mold that to their application. One mistake can cost that company thousands of dollars per truck over its lifetime.

Great insult. Who cares if I have a marketing degree so long as I make bank with it and know what I’m talking about?

You spend way too much time worrying about what other people make.

I don't have to deal with the Dunder Miflin types, I'm too busy selling a professional service not staplers or cliff bars

I missed another thread. I’m not reading 10 pages. I just talked to a guy in the steel recycling business and his salesmen make damn good money.

I just realized this guy is in public accounting.

How in the hell does the OP think he gets clients?

I don't care what any individual makes, just provoking thought on the macro level and trying to understand why a labor model seems to be lagging behind a changing industry.

Selling a service or intangible isn't what I was talking about. I was obviously talking about sales of a tangible object, surely you have enough capacity to understand that.

He thinks that they just appear. There is no way he is in a leadership role right now and most likely while looking through numbers for some company saw what one of their sales guys made and lost his mind.
