That’s why I’m in casket and headstone sales. My customers are all first time buyers and most are clueless. Good thing about my customers is that they aren’t repeat customers so I don’t have to develop any relationships to keep their business.

No not really, but we starting to incorporate more AI into what we do.

For about the 10th time, I think the sales people bring value. This isn't an all or nothing special thing, I'm not sure how you all don't understand that. My point was and still is that the job description has changed tremendously and the pay structure has not, for better or worse.

I think where you got off on the wrong foot is the assumption that sales reps are order takers. In some situations, like commodity items in General Surgery, this is true. In specialized markets that isn’t the case. OML is right in the fact that as a good rep you have to be able to think through the surgery like a surgeon and tailor your message to the specific surgeon to get the results. I am that guy that when the shite hits the fan the surgeons want me there and actually know more about what needs to be done than anyone else in the room besides the surgeon.

I know that some hospitals have visited the “rep-less model” but it doesn’t work unless the hospitals are willing to pay real good money to the reps to become hospital staff. There is a shite ton of studying and practice in Cadaver labs that must be invested to keep a rep current (I have 1off at a training lab right now being taught by an up and coming surgeon). But the band-aid counters always think they aren’t necessary while the good surgeons admit they are worth their pay and then some. And btw I would take a 20% cut in pay to be staff at the trauma/academic center in my city. It would be a better work life balance but I doubt the hospital would pay to keep me current and I would be making more money, even with the cut, than most, if not all, the non-cutting Physicians in the hospital.

What’s the best background for medical sales besides being a doctor? Biology, engineering, etc?

In reality if the Band-aid counters really wanted to save money they would incentivize their employees to find better ways to minimize complications and get patients up and out faster. That is where the savings in hospitals are at.

Biology, and either being a smoking hot chick, a major athlete, or former member of the military. I was an anomaly there basically.

if you have ever left your house at 4am Monday returned at 9pm Thursday, spent three nights in a hotel with rental car drives of hours a day you wouldn’t be discounting how hard it can be

No offense, but sounds like something a computer could do faster and cheaper.

None taken.

Go create an algorithm or invest capital in someone who can and try to disrupt the market.

You’ll quickly see that these multinational freight forwarders understand self preservation and have many barriers in place.

I work for a smaller company not a forwarder. We provide transportation solutions for the forwarders.

Why Top Sales People Make More Than Some CEO’s?

It is these commissions that truly enable the total salary of a top sales person to rival or even exceed that of a CEO

Wake up at 5:00 on Monday and don’t return home until 10:00 on Thursday. It should compute, you’re just working on the 5 work day mentality.
