General info for food stamps in LA:

I just did a quick search. The maximum monthly food stamp benefit for a single person household in LA is $192. A household of 4 can get up to $640.

If you're sxamming, I'm sure it's a great deal. If you're a broke arse single mom trying to feed 3 rug rats, I bet $640 isn't as much as it sounds like. You could certainly survive off of it, but it won't be on crab claws and king cake.

It would be a pain in the arse oversight wise and the lobbying would be hard to get on the list of acceptable items.

Then why is this not an issue for WIC benefits?

It never ceases to surprise me how many conservatives on this website are for government intrusion on multiple fronts.

Also, a lot of people are ignoring that many areas of poverty are food deserts and sometimes the only foods available will appear to the "fruits and vegetables" only crowd as non-essential.

You know facts aren't welcome in these circle jerk let's-hate-the-poor threads.

What's ridiculous is Amazon paying ZERO taxes on $11,000,000,000 in 2018 profits

If they have, they are no longer politicians.

You'd have more success getting elected advocating secession.

Yahoo Story

Plenty of other sources if you don't like Yahoo. Zero federal taxes. None.

The title of the article is misleading to the public

Plus I love the buzz words in it. Loophole lol

It is a bigger pain in the arse for the store. It's likely one of the reasons making SNAP like WIC would get some pushback. WIC serves much fewer people too. The oversight necessary jumps when you're talking about more vendors serving 40+ million.

Plus $$$ flowing, WIC is small potatoes compared to SNAP. Do you not think every Ag special interest is going to be in an orgy of corruption to get on the list?

You know they trade food stamps for cash, right? That's another thing that's pretty prevalent

As I'm sure you know, there are no actual food stamps anymore. Everything is loaded on a card requiring a PIN. Let's just forget for a moment that it's against the rules to swap benefits for cash, but how does this fraud work? What is the advantage to the card holder to buy groceries their account and then turn around and sell them at a discount for cash? I can see the severely drug addicted doing this, but otherwise, you'd have to be a moron. How prevalent can this scam really be? Maybe these are paying the for the carts of crab legs everybody always see.

I don't doubt there's fraud. I know there's fraud. It's everywhere. There's fraud in public programs, business and at church. But I don't think everyone is scamming everybody all of the time.

Is this because poors on both sides of the political spectrum rely so much on this?
The "poors" don't really need it. trying to slow down or turn back anything dealing with entitlements is obvious political suicide.

They shouldn't be. Bread, milk, some meat items, vegetables, water.

I agree with the spirit of your post.

However, the government telling someone what they can and can't eat is a little commie, don't you think?

If we put strict dietary requirements on EBT cards and health insurance this country would solve many of its biggest problems in a few short years

Its not commie if the government is paying for it. Should we just give them cash then so they can buy booze and cigarettes because who are we to tell them what to do with their free money? Were bread lines commie because that's all they had to offer?

You have limited, healthier options, because you aren't paying for it yourself and you have CHOSEN to have someone else pay for it.

They're not telling me what to eat because I pay for it with my own damn money.

That's my point.

If I were flat broke, I'd be thrilled to get $192 of "free" money each month. But if I truly only had that $192 to eat on, there is going to be a lot of beans, rice and "weekly special" chicken and pork in my diet. I don't see much room for crab claws in the budget.
