I was offered a job to operate one of those tents a few years back. Problem was, you were paid based on how much product was sold (they said they had a "norm" range of what was expected based on past history) and you also had to sleep inside the tent to ensure that nobody came during the night and stole anything. Nope.

You would be amazed at how cheap they buy buy the fireworks for. I mean its all paper and gunpowder from China.
My dad worked security at one of the local fireworks places when he was a cop and the family who owned it had three across the county. They'd open for about 3 weeks before the 4th and Be Year and that was their only income. They'd make their entire nut for a year in 6 weeks of being open for business.

Save it for your annual Nextdoor posting, Nancy.

How do the owners connect with China?
Red Rocket Fireworks in Hammond is where my brother in law purchases all of his fireworks for their stand.

And they can only sell their products twice a year, but everything is always on sale

Have you bought artillery shells in the past few years? They sell those things for $50-$100 and I guarantee you they buy them for $5-$10.

My dog hates fireworks and I still shoot fireworks. He’ll live, I just put him in my bedroom with the tv on and a big dog bone.

They have brokers who deal directly with China and everyone buys from those brokers. The guy with the stand isn’t talking to Xi Hi

n East Tennessee they have permanent structures and some warehouses that operate year round.
There's a place in Nevada right near Area 51 that is open all year long.

Exactly. They get over it.
Buddy of mine had a dog that would try and eat lit firecrackers. Little fricker was a blast to have around. Just absolutely bonkers, but still a good dog, if that makes sense.

In the Houston area, there are people who get the same spots every year and they have their own RV parked next to it. But they are still required to be inside the structure 24 hours a day.

I have a family member who runs a stand twice a year (4th and New Year's Eve). He goes in with another guy who has a few stands and they buy containers from overseas.
Every cent profit they've made over the past 12ish years has gone toward a college fund for their kid. I feel good in saying that they won't have to worry about coming up short.

From what I understand, just in Louisiana when they are only sold for a week in July and two weeks in December, there is a lot of money to be made.
I know of an organization that started selling them maybe 15 years or so ago. They started off with a small snowball type stand, has since built a bigger stand and a small warehouse where they store products. At first they would get whatever they sold a few weeks before they opened to sell, but since it is cheaper to order for the whole year, they just keep them stored.
The markup price is insane, but they sell them cheaper than anyone else so I guess what they miss in price, they make up with volume.
You don't need anything more than a shack. Look at your potential competitors, find a location that has a lot of traffic or easy to get to, bring attention to your location and... Well you either have to work it yourself or find someone you really trust to work it for you. The organization I speak of has volunteers, so they don't have to pay anyone.
You can start a non-profit and go that direction with it.
In La I think you need a permit.

Profit margins?
About 300% markup. I ran one in college and the owner would give me $1,000 for the week and commission if we sold over $10,000 or something like that.

Best part time gig I’ve ever had. I used to make bank working the firework stands. Can’t imagine what the owners were making if they were paying the part time help that well.

Ask your vet for sedatives for high anxiety dogs on holiday weekends like this. Shitty dog owners just let their pets suffer while bitching on social media.

Most people pull a camper to the site or rotate in shifts to avoid sleeping in the fireworks tent.
